Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Have a connection in BOS that was 1.5 hours, now is less than 30 (29 minutes). DOM-DOM MCT is 30, DOM-INT is 40 minutes so it fails both MCT. Am I likely to be able to re-route via JFK or PHL instead? Current routing SFO-LAX-BOS-LHR-OSL
As you fail MCT you will need to change the flights. Of course this may just be to put you on a later flight rather than a reroute. Be prepared for what these options are and the impact on your arrival time at final destination and give them a call to discuss. Don't forget that JFK/LAX is on the 321T so only 140TPs in J. (Who knows about F and 210TPs next year!)

Thanks
Welcome to FT. Not sure how to book the AY flight numbers. Not sure if anybody has but they are showing as cheaper than the same/similar BA/AA fares.

AS recently changed their website making it harder to build more complex itineraries. Not looked in the past couple of weeks to see if they have improved this. Used to be that by matching up pairs of cities you could get around some of the limitations, for example LCY/LAX would show connections via JFK.

Sorry, not been much help so with stick with saying hello.

I've got an upcoming HNL run that involved AY flights - I ended up reaching out to Dutch_122 for assistance with the booking.

Travel before Jan 11th, regardless of when booked, should accrue at the present rates from anything I've seen.
Thanks, KARFA & JonNYC. I was beginning to stress that I had to make all bookings before November 12th. NP completing all qualifying flights before January 11th. ^

Exactly! Next flight isn't an option really as it adds 12 hours or so onto the trip and would miss me OSL-LHR that will get me home. Looks like leaving SFO at 7am (vs 11am) is an option, but obviously I would prefer not to. Will present with re-route options and see what I can get away with then ^

The F to J thing did of course cross my mind also, made me wonder if I should just hold off addressing the issue at all and then wait until post-Feb to make the change (the travel is in April and the illegal MCT will still be there, unless of course the flight changes again). If the transcon flights will goto J anyway then may as well do LAX-MIA/JFK in the more comfortable A321T.

Hi All

I still can't get Finnair to price up the flights I want - I just wanted to check with you guys that I am not doing anything silly. I have attached the MATRIX screenshot of what I am trying to book and the Finnair error I keep getting (for any date I try) - any ideas?

If it makes you feel any better, I can't even get Matrix to show me your flights!

Welcome to FT. Entering the following on matrix should do the trick ( just worked for me for exact same flights).

I'm a Londoner 110 TP short of retaining silver.

Just booked myself a nice TP run to BCN via MAD for a weekend in November.

£1.88/TP | £226 | 120 | LGW-MAD-BCN-MAD-LGW | I | IB booked on BudgetAir (for discount from ITA fare of £247)

Based on my travel plans up until my BA birthday on Jan 8th, I'm going to be 235T TPs short of gold renewal. I can make some time for a TP holiday (I'm in London) between Boxing Day and that date, but from what I've noticed over the past couple of years, nice discount J fairs don't tend to materialise then. Any ideas as to somewhere warm I could get to for <£1k around then, or if, based on previous years, something like that might appear in time?

PS - I'm open to options of something like a EU-ME-Asia or EU-USA-Central/South America, where I'd do the return leg after the 8th, to post the points into next year.

Very neat ! ^ I am now re-thinking a trip I was planning which needed to net me 720 TP's.

£2.50/TP | £1,800 | LHR-CDG (BA connector ticket) then CDG-AMM-BKK on RJ BKK - HKG on CX (on an RJ through fare) and return.

Not the greatest TP value, but excellent if one needs to be flying out to HKG in any event !

Check out the premium fares thread for ideas. Some stuff on there ex-DE to singapore, or using other OW airlines.

As I'm in NY this weekend and don't have to be in Connecticut until Sunday night, booked JFK-BOS-JFK in F (on the 3 class transcontinental A321 too) - 120TP for £271.

Given that I need to be on a specific AA flight from YYZ-ORD that had no reward availability at all and cost me £229 for 40TP, I'm quite happy with that

It's bookable on expedia.co.uk for £514.91

The exact flights you want appear as the first result on page 5 when you search. (or at least they did for me)
