Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

New to this so any help appreciated.
I completely messed up and just realised I need 90 points by 22nd July from Glasgow to retain Silver.
I'm not sure where to start as I normally travel to London for work and and a few holidays but tier points isn't normally a consideration. Any suggestions for a cheap and fast solution?!

I've had a bit of a wibble as to the TPs generated by the Qatar cheap fare to Auckland earlier in the year.

I thought it would earn me gold (though I need one more BA metal flight), but not so sure now.

It is FRA - DOH (QT) DOH - HKG (QT) HKG - AKL (CX)/ AKL - SYD (Quantas Jetconnect) SYD - DOH (QT) DOH - FRA (QT).

Which I thought was at least: 140 + 140 + 140 + 40 + 140 + 140 = 740

I thought I read somewhere that Quantas Jetconnect flights don't earn TPs. Also wasn't sure if SYD to DOH was one of those 160 TP routes.

So can anyone confirm what the TPs expected are?

BTW, interestingly, though originally booked in R class, when it was the 17 hour DOH - AKL which was cancelled, it is now I class all the way over and J class all the way back. Are those fare codes more flexible? Can I possible change some of the return leg at least (wondering if I missed my chance to go back to BHX rather than FRA).

Qantas operated by Jetconnect earn TPs absolutely fine. The service is generally very good on those flights with their New Zealand based crew.

Sydney - Doha is a 160 TP route according to the calculator on BA.com

Officially you'll still be bound by the fare conditions that you originally booked, BUT there's a decent chance an agent would just use the conditions of the new fare codes.

I have had a similar thing happen when a super cheap SHJ-DOH was cancelled and they booked me on DXB-DOH instead; and this was a couple of weeks out. I successfully changed it free of charge 3 times in the run up to the flight, as the new fare code was a fully flex one.

A CE trip (GLA-LHR-XX) to anywhere in Europe would do, as that's 120TPs
For example, Hamburg for £346, but very early start in the morning: http://goo.gl/flights/U8ji

Amsterdam requires an extra night or two, but cheaper http://goo.gl/flights/xLkh

Haha, yes, that was definitely a one off. I was working in Miami and took a quick, weekend side trip to Hawaii to tip me over 5,000 points. Definitely worth the 90 minutes I managed on the island, although I did leave my favourite swimming shorts on the beach

I like the sound of this quick turn around! Would suit my strict time schedule and rack up points. Keep looking but can't see any decent deals. Down to my crap skills with ITA.

More likely down to the fare rules requiring a Saturday night stay.

So worth plugging into ITA a trip with a 1 night stay? Just has to be a Saturday or any night? I'll try again with just a Saturday night if that's the best approach? Thanks for the advice.

The current exDUB sale doesn't though.

Travel from inbound transatlantic sector must commence no earlier than the first Sunday after departure of the outbound transatlantic sector.
You can therefore arrive in HNL on Saturday and do a back to back.

This allows positioning for your inbound TATL prior to the Sunday. You could for example set off from HNL on Friday night arriving in PHX on Saturday morning, do PHX-JFK during Saturday, have a night in NYC on Saturday night and then do your TATL on Sunday. Or arrive and depart HNL on Saturday, arrive PHX Sunday morning, do your transcon to JFK on Sunday daytime, and take a Sunday evening TATL back to the UK.

EDIT:
Just to add that I think the theoretical minimum time needed for a HNL run if stopping on the east and west coast of the US both ways would be 4 days, so DUB-LHR-JFK-PHX on Friday, PHX-HNL-PHX on Saturday and arriving back on PHX early Sunday, and then arriving back in the UK and on to DUB on Monday.

Not necessarily. There's no certainty that the kind of trip you're looking at for you want to pay is actually there to be found, particularly if you have a narrow timeframe.

Apologies if didn't read far enough back for your travel dates, but does this itinerary suit? 1200 TP's for £1349 with about 8 hours in Honolulu.

Other options are available as I know some people don't like the 757's via PHX, but it does maximise the TP's.

This is within the sale period detailed earlier in this thread, otherwise it comes in more like £1800.

That is absolutely fantastic. Really great deal. How many TP would this earn? Is there a cancellation period with AA? Tempted to book now as this would definitely work, just need to get leave green lighted.
Very grateful for your help David.
