Poor BA's results at the World Airline Awards

BA's results at this year's World Airline Awards are appalling. BA is ranked 20 in the world (down from 17 in 2014). BA did not manage to get any specific reward for any of its products, catering, cabin crew or cabin cleanliness...

AF was awarded best improved airline of 2015 and I have to agree with that. Had the pleasure to fly with them lately and they seem to be pleasant with nice cabin crew and good food...

I think all this cost cutting is going to ultimately hurt BA and as I am a die hard fan of BA, I am really starting to look elsewhere when possible.

Here is the summary of BA's "achievements this year":

Best Transatlantic Airline: 2nd behind LH (Shocking)
Best First Class Lounge Dining: 10th
Best Business Class Airline Lounges: 9th
Best Business Class Lounge Dining: 9th
Best Premium Economy Class Airlines: 5th

What do you think?

For an airline which has been more functional than luxurious and overpriced rather than underpriced, 20th is a good placing!

I hope those rankings are taken with a great pinch of salt too - AirAsia at 25th is quite a joke!!!

JL and KE, on the other hand, seem to have been ranked too low.

Yes. But BA's placings actually seem quite fair.

Mid-table mediocrity then?

At least they're not in the relegation zone...

I'm sure the bean counters will see it as a positive 20th a good trade off. Now next time well below that may spark some changes.

I don't pay any attention to industry awards. We all know they're not a market leader in any cabin though.

Indeed. I'd have ANA and JAL replaced. The monstrosity of the former getting such a high place is ridiculous given how they have a similar soft product and a worser hard product on ANA's side.

But then again, seeing Skytrax rankings are just like... watching Eurovision. Some good performers get ranked lowly for no apparent reason, and some ridiculous ones are ranked highly for no apparent reason too.

Vueling down at number 97 .. a glimpse of the future perhaps

Interestingly despite the 6th place for premium economy airline, it's not in the top 10 for either premium economy seating or premium economy catering, so I have no idea what bumped their overall score up.

Shocking that LH are top, or that BA aren't top, or that BA are as high as 2nd ?

You don't believe their ratings for BA are fair and representative, then ?

Pretty good considering their main base is at LHR.

I got several emails from various airlines asking me to vote for them in the Skytrax awards. Nothing from BA. I suspect the results are somewhat gamed.

As critical as I can often be of BA, there is no bigger scam in any industry than "industry awards"...
