KLM has totally different safety instructions for flights that do not cross seas or oceans too. Seems SOP.

Comair feature in this months Amex Platinum magazine (Departures).

The half page article talks about the St Helena route.

You could always equip every aircraft for every conceivable emergency, but it's not uncommon to find risk assessments at work. For example, many aircraft don't have lifejackets on board if they're only operating overland flights (eg - IIRC - many US domestic flights, which instruct you to use the seat cushion as a flotation aid). Not carrying rafts on some flights which are not planned to have extended overwater periods is something which - again, IIRC - QF also does in some cases.

Do we know when the tickets go on sale? I would love to go, though not for 7 days necessarily.

C-W-S do we have any early B2B indications from the pictures GaxxyFlyer and Calchas posted?

My suspicion is that your main difficulty would be the check in desk closing before you had completed immigration / customs. Probably the same staff will be used to man the check in desk and to man the gate. I don't see immigration, HM Customs nor emigration taking much time. [Although you will be an "odd" traveller with no luggage, and you are likely to be stamped out by the same man who stamps you in, which might raise eyebrows.]

If you can do a remote check in [online or from another airport], you are okay; but this a new airport with fresh-faced staff unfamiliar with ideas of back-to-backs and people treating planes like buses.

I would also surmise that the flights are likely to be sold out some time in advance. Therefore, if you miss your turnaround, you may be well and truly stranded for weeks.

I will let you know in due course. (You would have to do it as 2 tickets, I suspect, and I'd guess it's non-viable for a few years until the local staff are comfortable with the concept).

Supposedly Comair will end up flying on to Ascension once every four weeks, night stopping, and coming back the next day via St Helena. So a brief 24 hour visit might be possible once a month.

Back down to the concourse we go and into the public toilets which are virtually complete. Mirrors are still to be fitted but everything else is in place including sink taps triggered by motion sensors – another first for St Helena.
