British Airways fleet 'spot the difference'

New YouTube video - see how geeky you really are

According to a recent poll, 75 per cent of people asked didn’t know the difference between an A320 and an A380 aircraft, one of the smallest, and the largest aircraft in the British Airways fleet. The A380 superjumbo has two decks and can carry 469 customers – almost three times more than its little sister.

To test your knowledge, we've created this video of the different aircraft in the British Airways fleet. Can you guess which aircraft is which? Don't worry if you get stuck, the answers are at the end!

ooohhh.

I do like the sound of this (can't access youtube from work).

not surprised by the stats though - I often have to stop myself interrupting others at dinner parties when they tell me that they flew a jumbo to somewhere in Europe or First Class to Paris from London or so.

I usually only fly 319 or 744, so I have an excuse.
Still only got 4, through haste/carelessness.

I thought the Embraer was bigger

No a318? Or E19/75? Or those little things that ply the MANBLL route? Or 737?

Oh wow, nice quiz, I did horrible.

I just plain (pun) didn't recognize the 767 and 777, and mistook the dreamliner for an airbus.

I picked out the 747 and A380, they're very distinct shapes (not to mention the no. of engines). I totally mixed up the A319/A320/A321. What to look for when trying to distinguish them? I know they differ in size, but how to judge when there's little reference?

@kanderson: Thanks for that tip! I'm a novice at spotting planes, but I'll try and memorize that. (Found a good link for it too)

The over wing exits are a good clue to distingush between the A320 family.

8/8

Would have struggled with one of them if I didn't know that that livery was only applied to this type.

A319 = 1 over wing exit (apart from the easyjet A319's they have 2)
A320 = 2 over wing exit
A321 = no over wing exit, but they are spread across the AC

You can tell its a A320 series, the 737 doesn't have round engine covers. The A320 has some kind of antenna about the cockpit and the 737 has it half way down the fuselage.

EDIT: only just noticed your link

They should have put a 777-300 in there to throw people off. Sadly that was very easy.

I do think they should have thrown both a 772 and a 773 in to keep us on our toes!

8/8 too. 321 has "big" doors , not the small ones for over-wing exits on the 320 or 319.

747-8 (poetic licences) and that craft that lands on the beach in Scotland might be testers too!

An easy way to spot an A318 is to look at the vertical stabiliser, it seems to be out of proportion (oversized) compared to the rest of the plane.
