WW on BBC Radio 4 Today programme - Bio fuel venture

He says committing to a renovated refinery in Thames estuary for 11 years and to fuel 2% of fleet.

Do folks know what how environmentally/economically sound producing kerosene from household waste is? Must be commercially viable, at least in longer run, if he's going down this path??

Was just on at about 8:48 GMT.

I don't think it's possible to produce kerosene from "household waste".

Various airlines, including KLM and Qantas, have already run trials where planes are powered at last partially on "biofuel" made from recycled chip fat/cooking oils.

VS also did some trials on bio fuels

According to this article in The Guardian

... to convert everyday waste into gas and then into a range of liquid fuels.
so it's not a direct process. I'm guessing the waste produces methane.

Maybe in future we'll be able to drop off a few refuse bags full of garbage when we check in our luggage at the airport
