Just when I thought I'd seen the epitome of willy-waving on FT this thread come along...

I'll throw my hat in the ring with: left school at 15, went over to Japan to 'have a look', travelled around the world to have a bigger look, emigrated to the UK (with 80p in my pocket upon arrival ) and have managed to run a mildly successful business ever since*

*it will become really successful when I don't have to work in between the travelling bits.

Good to see I wasn't the only one who left school early to attend the university of life.

Glad to see another Castleman on FT.

Floreat Castellum!!

And no they don't seem to have evolved if current observations as member of staff at Durham is anything to go by. You may be pleased to hear that Castle undergrads still steal Hatfield banners and tape them to the floor in the gatehouse on matriculation day so that the new members of the college trample over then when they return from the cathedral.

Bit like asking if a Hilton group hotel is posh.

Not that you need to know what a perfect fifth is to play one!

My teacher used to say you need to know the rules before you can break them and I think he had a good point.

But you need to know what a Plagal cadence is before you can spot one.
I knew the rules but wasn't allowed to break them - no parallel fifths despite the beauty of my harmony.

Yes, good point, you do.

I never really understood the problem with consecutive octaves and fifths - other than presumably, someone somewhere somewhen, didn't like them.
