Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:
  • BA issued tickets (can include other carriers) ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with only BA flights ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with other carriers

  • Some TP runs can be booked online at aa.com. Be sure to use the Sort by schedule option in order to locate the exact flights you found on the ITA Matrix tool.

Nice one. I think i have it all sorted and understood though no doubt i will think of something else. I need to fit LAX in somewhere as if i put JFK-LAS-JFK, the price doubles.

Will just phone AA up when booking it then i can make no mistakes......hopefully. Will give BA a call beforehand mind you to double check.

Thanks again for all the input.

Thanks for all help on this.
The route that you describe should be possible to book on BA.com,
with BA (or IB) flight code on the transatlantic part you will get more Avios 150% rather than 125% with AA code.

The most comfortable route is to take the new A321 to LAX/SFO, and if you are doing that you want BA flightcode on that part as well, since AA will book you into Business not First anyway.
The difference will be that you will loose 20TPs between LAX/SFO and LAS.

Has anyone any experience of the MH run from SIN to Delhi? It also works to Mumbai as well for the same cost and TP. I was wondering if I will need a visa as a Brit as that will add hassle and an extra £100. For my dates, TPE and KTM price out a lot higher.

I hesitate to post short haul info amongst all these transcontinentals, Caribbeans and Pacific runs. But I've noted the occasional requests for short haul runs to secure 10/20/etc TPs. Usually runs to/from AMS or JER are suggested but I have found an alternative.

I was looking for a short notice LON-ZRH return. BA were relatively expensive at £210 in ET after shareholder and EuropeOffer discounts but offering 20 TPs return. SWISS were around £135 offering minimal M+M points, which are next to useless to me these days. I found TP- and Avios-earning fares of £132. How? Simples-ish.

STN-DUS-ZRH and v.v. with Air Berlin offers 40 TPs round trip, so better on that score than BA, though 500 total Avios is disappointing so the offer is only recommendable for TPs.

I found this at skyscanner.net while playing, er researching, with my tablet. So far as I could see, it is not available for my dates at airberlin.com or ba.com.

I got as far as the payment page before opting for BA flights on an Avios RFS.

I imagine this could also work on XXX-YYY-ZZZ tickets where XXX = UK, YYY = AB transfer points and ZZZ = final destiantion.

When booking AMS-LCY-JFK-LAX-LAS and there is an overnight in JFK, are your bags checked the whole way through to LAS or do you need to collect and re-check in at JFK the following morning ?

Do all AB fare buckets earn Tier points? I think one discount economy one has came up in the past that didn't.

Really?

There is no suggestion of this on http://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/...-avios/flights. Only 25% Avios though, if that is a concern.

This thread has more info on it, not sure if the info is up to date, but it's a good idea to check the fare class before booking against the BA earning chart.

Your boarding pass will have BA 1 printed on it, it may also say sold as AAxxxx or similar on it, but the main number displayed will be that of the operating carrier.

Not all of AB´s classes are listed on BA.com, if they're not there you won't earn anything, take a look here and compare, I believe it's T and Z that earn nothing.

You can book the babybus on BA codes at aa.com if you faff around a bit with it.

I'm safe this year. my year ends in Feb and I'm more than safely over the threshold for gold. It's looking unlikely I'd have the time to take a small TP run needed to get to GGL and then gift him a card.

I have a friend whose year ends in June and he only has 500 TP. I was originally going to suggest a TP run to secure gold requalification before his card expired.

However, won't he be better off waiting until after 8th June then doing the TP run? Then he gets the remainder of the 2014 membership year + the 2015 full membership year taking him to 8 June 2016? Also if he takes the TP run after the membership year ends but before the card expires he can still get all the BA Gold benefits when doing the TP run?

AMS - LCY: 40
LCY - JFK: 210
JFK - LAS: 210
LAS - LAX: 60
LAX - SFO: 60
SFO - JFK: 210
JFK - LCY: 210
LCY - AMS: 40

Total: 1040TP
TP: £1.62 TP

Not bad of a run, I think you can have longer stay in LAS, SFO or LAX. I just decided SF since I have family there.

Yes, definitely best qualifying straight after his year starts, rather than before the previous one ends. I've arranged a flight for my daughters around the same principle, leaving on the 11th of the month their new year starts in. They'll pick up 670 points and get two years at Silver.
