Family and Friends - spending Avios outside of your Household Account (HHA)

Dear all

We are really excited to confirm that Household Account Members can now spend their Household Avios on up to 5 additional family and friends who do not live at the same address. The Head of the Household Account can add family and/or friends to the new Family and Friends list which can be accessed via logging into your Executive Club account and selecting 'My family and friends' from the left hand menu.

A communication about this new benefit will be sent to the Heads of Household Accounts in the next few days.

Warm regards

Nicci

It would make more sense to email everyone, since the previous inability to do this is what put people off opening HHA's in the first place!

If you already have a HHA then presumably it wasn't ever an issue for you :-)

Great news! I had to exit my household account to redeem some avios.

Thank you BA. A very welcome change.

Am I right in thinking any additional family/friends will have to be part of the HHA and "transfer" their Avios to the head account holder?

Nicci - will this also apply on 241 redemptions?

Thanks again.

It was on Head for Points first this morning

Anyway, I have had to expel the missus from our HHA so that she could book for another family member. I am looking forward to her rejoining the HHA in five months!

The HHA pools avios from HHA members for bookings.

Bookings can be made for all in the HHA and/or the additional family/friends.

Well for a change I believe this is a positive. Most programmes allow for spending on whoever but do not allow HHAs. This combines the best of both.

^ where ^ is due!

No 6 month wait

Cancelled my household account (family of 6) a month ago because I couldn’t book other family members to come visit us. I was able to create a new household account today. No 6 month wait.

that's very helpful, although the ability to transfer to Avios did create a work around for this.

BA Household Account improvement

It was previously not kosher to use your HHA miles for someone who didn't live at the same address. That probably didn't stop people from doing so... Nonetheless, I welcome this announcement:

Dear Mr jib71,

We're delighted to bring you a great benefit of being an Executive Club Member.

We've enhanced our Household Account offering, so you can now spend your household Avios on up to five family and friends that do not live at the same address as you. Simply add them using your new Family and Friends list.

As with your Household Account, you can book reward flights for them with Avios. And since the details of your chosen five will be saved and filled in, you'll be able to make the bookings quickly and simply.

Log in at ba.com and you'll find 'My Family and Friends' as an additional option under 'Manage my account'.
