I don't have a schedule but when these aircraft are sheduled for their D check which is the heavy maintenance check when they strip the aircraft down, they are getting new F fitted.

So all those that we are keeping will get new F.

Thanks. It is just that there have been some 747 that had heavy maintenance at CWL recently and didn't get new F. Interesting to know that they will be resuming the programme. How often do 747s get their D check?

Or longer.......

I like OF as long as it's clean. Whoever designed and authorised the NF seat without a legrest should have been sacked!!!! Obviously not a flyer.

There is in the form of a footstool which comes out but there is no independent legrest in the seat itself so you can't really can sit relaxed with your feet up.

The leg rest on NF goes up as you convert the seat into a bed which isn't ideal imo but YMMV.

Find it difficult to imagine. So it is not like CW? The leg rest isn't part of the bed?

Sorry my bad there.

Yes there is a leg rest in the NF seat but it only comes up as the seat goes down with a single control motion only (ie the bed goes down flat in one go). You can see it here on the right of the seat (big silver dial)

On OF you can sit upright with your legs supported by the seat leg rest to whatever position you like. Both photos are from my last TR.

As of October BA will operate 4 different long haul J products, not exactly consistent...

Well, all are flatbeds which is good enough for me!

I can understand the need for a medium haul product for the ME. Not a bad move in my mind. I read the thread on it so no need to repeat the pros and cons here. Of the 'old' 767s there are but a few and the LCY route is well understood. No chance of subs there.

It is every 6 years. Given that the D-check involves stripping out seating, wall panels and in places the floor, it would be perverse not to put back new or refurbished seating.

If you want a flavour of what is involved, have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_yHtfGH0nI which follows the D-check of a BA 747 by the guys and girls in Cardiff.

I agree the product inconsistency is a weakness. An under-remarked problem with OF staying in service so long after the launch of NF is the impact on morale. I've had CC confess they are ashamed of it and enjoy their work much more in NF. That's potentially more damaging than the disappointment pax feel when they see it's OF.

I suspect that this is all dependent on how fast the A380's are delivered. If BA can push the delivery of these forward (the later ones in particular) then I suspect some of the 747-400's will not get NF. Also BA has another 4 777-300ER's between now and 2014 and I suspect that they are trying to negotiate more as the fuel economy is just so much better. Likewise the A380 - you can carry many more passengers for the same fuel as a 747-400 roughly and if you increase J from 70 seats to the rumoured 95-100 then this is a no brainer......

FD.

100 Club seats on the same plane. Wow, that sounds exclusive... Not!

Let us pray it's in several Demi-cabins and not too large a dorm...
