GBP 20k for 180 passengers is only GBP 111 per passenger.

The airline was bust so they could not otherwise have travelled, and GBP 111 is probably cheaper than having to arrange flights back yourself. I think that these passengers were comparatively lucky.

This is why travel insurance was invented surely. Get off plane, call insurance and wait for them to sort it out.... Have a few more days holiday

And most-likely still cheaper than BA's fuel surcharge. Looking forward to this enhancement at BA

I wonder why the photo is of a (bankrupt) XL plane?

Who do they think they are, the Daily Fail?

111 is fine if you're an adult in employment travelling alone. If you're travelling with your children or elderly granny it becomes somewhat less reasonable. Still i'd agree that those guys were luckier than the pax who are allegedly still in India. Plus they were given the option of offloading, which probably makes them luckier than the poor sods that got stranded in small American airports a few weeks ago

I wonder what the travel insurance poistion on this actually is, I don't recall it being mentioned on my last policy.

I caught the tail end of this story on a bulletin on the World Service yesterday, but missed the full details and couldn't find the story. Thanks!

What's weird is that Comtel Air's web site claims that they are an executive airline, with a Falcon 2000 jet (well, could be more than one, difficult to tell). So was the Amritsar to Brum flight wet leased?

Edit: found the answer in the Beeb's story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ngham-15775920

Mint Lineas Aereas run two 757-200ERs. That's a long old haul from Amritsar on a narrow body aircraft.

Then you ain't covered!

Many travel policies do not cover their insured for airline/tour company/hotel financial failures.
