I don't think I've ever had a problem travelling alone in the US even though I'm not 21 yet. Mostly my experience is with VS which generally has waiter-service but I'm sure they have unattended alcohol as well so the principle is the same.

I guess it's the luck of the draw with the lounge guardian.

This must be a very gray area. I've been into the lounge with my daughter and her friend, and no one has ever tried to stop us, even tho I am not her friend's parent or guardian. I suppose as she was on the same PNR that must count as being 'under supervision' but its a weird distinction.

Indeed but it is a US law so the workarounds are often weird and wonderful. Maybe we should open ba97.com/under21

This is an example of bad service. You've paid for lounge access and should receive it.

I'd definitely complain to BA.

So BA should break NY law or totally rethink its lounge concept to suit NY law?

BA should do what it takes to deliver the service which is a published benefit of the ticket (their ticket or one entitling them to use their facilities).

I guess the OP's beef is with CX? (but thanks for posting .. not a good situation).

Nevertheless, had I stumped up for BA CW for mini-fish, and found she'd been denied the advertised lounge access I'd not be a happy camper.
Funny .. its the sort of thing I'd expect BA to have organised some kind of work-around for (if indeed the issue really is NY state law). For example, if Terraces is NOT okay with local Laws & Customs, then how's about inviting them to GF or the CCR.

One a wider point, is this "restriction" operating in other BA lounges in the USofA?

Is there any specific reason while under 21 year olds should call them different way than say 50 years old? Are they paying less money for their tickets? I don't like calling them dragon, but it doesn't have anything with age.

Anyway, this policy sucks, good to know that I'm not to fly BA from US whenever not traveling with adult.

Good idea. Nice way to salvage the situation.

BA could have some attendant who would serve alcohol. AFAIK, lounge access for 18 years old people is published benefit so they should create system which allows it.

On the subject of local laws, isn't there a Canadian regulation that prevents alcohol being distributed for free in a lounge? If so, how is it managed there?

I don't believe Emma Watson was 21 when in the BOS F-side lounge last year. Perhaps the 3 BA employees clustered around her (2 of which at least were BOS special services) counted as supervision

Gosh, wouldn't it be great if we could have fewer BA staff contributors and more wonderfully rational and sensible threads like this...Iraq and Afghanistan...I mean really...
