Longhaul 767s to DME

As mentioned in a number of other threads, the longhaul 767 is now making a regular appearance on the DME runs. I've done a few of these now, and it is certainly makes for a much more comfortable trip, and takes away the one-and-only reason (crappy, cramped, dirty and falling-apart planes) not to fly BA on the route.

Interesting to note that:
- The plane operating the 872/3 and 874/5 rotations varies day by day between a shorthaul 767, a longhaul 767 and a 320.
- Some days there are 2 longhaul 767s and a 320 operating (eg Friday next week), while other days there is just one shorthaul 767 and 2 320s (eg Wednesday next week)
- The plane scheduled to operate (according to seat plans well in advance) seems to stay fixed, with no short notice substitutions, so if you see a longhaul seatplan when you book, you are likely to get a longhaul plane
- On busier (most) lh 767 flights, the CE cabin goes to row 13 (CW and WT+ seats) with rows 1-3 blocked for Emeralds, while on quieter days (eg next weekend) the CE cabin goes to row 4 only, with just row 1 blocked for Golds.

For reference, the schedule for next week (I'm flying Tuesday, so carefully chose the 875 instead of the 873) is:

Thursday

BA872 – longhaul 767
BA874 – shorthaul 767

interesting !!

also interesting to see that thebasource is stating that the 767 is going to start showing up at GLA more often due to the bmi pull out.

could well be that if bmi do pull out of EDI as well that the 767's start showing up at EDI as well.

perhaps some of the 767's that arent going to be refurbished later this year could be refitted into all Y and used just on scotland shuttles ?

Thanks Smirnoff.

How can I find out in advance which 767 config will be flying on a particular date other than booking the flight and looking at the seat plan? I usually take BA874 but could be tempted to change to 872 if i knew the LH aircraft would be on the run that day. I always take 881 back to LHR so I know it is going to be a A320 and I have to put up with a cramped exit seat.

Eh? The shorthaul 767s are all Y already, with converter seating in the front two cabins.

Expert Flyer or KVS will show you the seat plan for your flight.

Interesting thread Smirnoff. Had colleagues routing to DME on Tuesday and they were pleasantly suprised to get long-haul Club seats (which they hadn't been expecting). Unfortunately it looks as though they are flying back on the short haul 767 later this week...

Slightly OT, but I had the good fortune to have a LH 767 back from FRA this morning, my first time in NCW. It was a terribly pleasant experience...even more so as I was filled with a certain amount of foreboding before the flight seeing as my sole previous 767 experience had been on the SH variant to IST, which involved the plane going tech, lots of buses around T5, a 7 hour delay and no booze () being loaded when we eventually got going - not good!

I thought the NCW seat was lovely, would be perfectly happy to spend an actual long haul flight in it.

How far in advance will it show which plane will be used on this route (i.e. when do BA take that decision)?

BA should be smart and close out the lower classes for passengers originating in the UK on this route so that those getting CW or WTP pay a premium for the extra space on the aircraft they are enjoying.

No need to increase the fares for these flights, just close out D, R and I.

Not a wise move. I class POUGs maybe. But D and R class are expensive enough (around £1000 for the cheapest CE return fare, IIRC) and probably not too different to the discounted J/C fares which the big corporates get.

Impossible to do at the moment, as every week is different, every day is different.

This week, longhaul 767s went on MONDAY (872/3), TUESDAY (BOTH the 872/3 and 874/5) and WEDNESDAY (872/3). Updated: THURSDAY (BOTH the 872/3 and 874/5).

Last week longhaul 767s went on MONDAY (872/3), none on Tuesday, WEDNESDAY (872/3), THURSDAY (872/3), FRIDAY (BOTH the 872/3 and 874/5).

Next week, longhaul 767s are planned to operate on MONDAY (the later 874/5), TUESDAY (874/5), none on Wednesday, THURSDAY (872/3) and FRIDAY (BOTH the 872/3 and 874/5) .

Ah yes, I had forgotten how expensive CE is on DME!

I retract my statement!

GBP 900 should be an appropriate discounted fare for CW on a four hour sector.

much appreciated
ps. yes i know! straws...clutching...but if they did, it might sway my decision should the £150 pro active upgrade be offered:-)

I flew out to DME on Monday on the 767 and was a pleasant trip. Came back on the early morning flight yesterday on an A£20 and got my first ever ET to CE uG. Hope this bodes well for my trip to SIn later today as the last two LH flights I have had a Y>J UG.^

On expertflyer seems to be on SH configuration (05/23/11 BA 632), also it seems to be close to sold out.
