B772 operating domestic ex LGW again

I see that G-YMMF operated todays (15/4/2011) BA2964/2965 LGW-GLA-LGW rotation today, quite an upgrade !!

No doubt another tech issue with a 734 at LGW, im guessing that the 5W A320 is off on lease to someone else and the 772 was the only spare knocking around, but does beg the question as to why BA have not got a proper spare aircraft at Gatwick currently

Such a swap would leave me with a smile on my face for the whole journey to/from Glasgow/LGW.

I flew south on this rotation just 3 weeks ago too....

It would never happen on the JER rotation... the 777 would need about double the length of runway!

In theory it is possible to get a 777 in and out of JER you need a dry day, and cool air lots of flaps and not fully loaded, the 777-300ER would be the best option.

Its never going to happen though

A possibly related thought - does anyone know if the BA 734's were amongst the batch caught up in extra inspections following the Southwest incident?

AFAIK, it was only Southwest's aircraft that had to get inspected. I suspect a 734 was feeling poorly.

The summer schedule is now running, so no spare aircraft, unfortunately. In any case, it costs a lot of money havin a spare sitting around in the hangar.

NoT BA just bmibaby, thomson and jet2- to do with number of flying hours. IIRC bmibaby had to check 3 of their 735s

Sometimes we get an A319 once a day now! The A319 is nice in CE but not as good in ET as your view gets pushed back and there is a bit of a fight to get the CE style seating which is usually only from rows 6-9!

BA need to increase this trend and include LHR-GLA too!

Have you any idea how hard it is to get a flight on either rotation since BD dropped it?

It's uneconomical to fly a 777 on such a short route.
