If the offer is open long enough, I would concider taking a ding on my credit report to close my wifes card and open a new one. Chase won't allow a product line transfer for current cards, they state that you either have to keep it open or close.

I have already put a good dent into the 30k for another 2-4-1.

Any suggestions on how to get more points let me know.

I THINK one needed to be out for six months to qualify for a new offer

longleaf Apr 5, 2011 8:48 pm

This 100,000 offer is probably in response to the the new fuel surcharge on AA flights with BA miles.

Myself and other FTers have recently been able to get Chase cards after 30 days. I have also been able to get one after under 30 days but had to reduce credit limit of another card. As always, YMMV but after 30days is common wait period.

It would be nice to hear FTs suggestions of the best use of these miles, now-a-days.

Best use of miles. Well I spent 30k last year got the 2-4-1 along with my wifes getting a card 200k miles, she traveled some. So far I have booked
F to LHR from PHL return CW LHR to PHL then 2 first/business tickets on AA from PHL to AUA, and then this year used the 2-4-1 going F PHL to TXL and return MUC to PHL.

Yes there are fuel surcharges on the BA portion AA didnt have them at the time but I have booked gotten about 30-40000 dollars worth of flights for about 2000 dollars in taxes.

I'm green with envy. The best sign-up bonus we can get in Canada is 15 000 RBC points on a $120/year card and hope for a 1.5x transfer bonus to BA. Or I could go for the only Canadian BA credit card available and get a mere 10 000 BA miles for a $165 annual fee. There's not nearly enough competition up here in the credit card realm, but then again all of our major banks were able to carry on quite nicely during the financial crisis.

Stealph, So did you had the BA Chase Card, you cancled it and then reapplied for another BA Chase Card.

I would love to do a product line transfer but the last time my wife went to do that they said she had to cancel the account.

No, never had the BA card, I currently have Chase United(last year), Priority Club, and recently got the Continental(March). If I wait 30 days and offer to cancel my United (which is coming up with 2nd year fee anyway, I should be able to get this as my new 3rd Chase card.

My understanding is that if you have already had the BA card, you won't get the bonus this time around.

I put together a blog post about some tips on using BA miles (you can ignore the first couple tips because they were in reference to the Amex 40% transfer bonus).

In a nutshell- I like BA for
-South America awards with a bunch of stopovers
-Cathay awards
-BA First when you end up getting the New First :D
-Domestic AA awards have no fuel surcharge. Total tax/fees on my one-way first class SFO-JFK was $2.50. Even my Cathay JFK-YVR in business only had $85 in fees.
- Using the household feature so you can combine multiple accounts
- Using BA.com to search Oneworld partner availability

The link posted by Drotch takes me to the application but the application doesn't mention the 100K offer. BA's website still has the 50K offer. Is there an active link to a 100K offer?

As I mention in my post my biggest concern with the application is that it doesnt mention the 100k, it does mention the new annual fee of $95. The link is directly from the ba site and matches one found in somones blog.

Supposedly this wasn't supposed to go live untill today-Wednesday.

As before mentioned, I would not click on any offer till you see next to the application the rules behind receiving the 100k.
It could be that ba was getting things ready to launch today like the blog mentions.

It's BACK BA CHASE 100,000 mile VISA

I know this is talked about in the "master thread" but IMO this is worth it's own. Be sure to wait for the link to show at BA site and be sure and do a SCREEN PRINT of the add and your application! If you look now and it shows 50k you may have to later clear your cashe to make sure to see the new 100k banner set to post later today according to sources!

http://frugaltravelguy.blogspot.com/

So if you missed the last one enjoy it this time around! The fee is higher than last time and the tax and gas fee's are up but keep in mind you can use the BA miles with AA!

There is much talk if you can get this again if you got it last time. If anyone can get a real answer from CHASE that would be great!^:D

When a bunch of us did this back in 2009, chase said one couldn't have had the BA CHASE CARD closer than six months prior, in order to get another card and get the bonus. Now, I don't recall if there were some who did, could, might do a scan of the previous 100K BA thread over the in the BA forum for confirmation, that puppy has a LOT of information

That's what everyone said last time

And then they said it again when AA allowed TATL redemption

Getting pretty tiring now

Droch Apr 6, 2011 8:21 am

From what I can see it looks like someone on the web team on ba's website jumped the gun with the link.

As everyone else has said wait till you see the offer listed next to the application.

irmster Apr 6, 2011 8:21 am

welcome to a whole new load of posters moaning about charges for their free 100k miles.

I would never complain about the charges. I have flowen very nicely in First and Club and have a big trip coming up. I look at it as I am paying for a normal flight and getting upgraded to First.

Indeed. Basically we will largely get Brits complaining that the yanks are going to take away all their redemption opportunities, which won't happen. And then the yanks complaining about having to pay the extortionate "taxes" to the Brits.

Yeah, they can all book their redemptions in Y and then come here to complain how their miles are valued at nothing :p:D
Fine by me!

henkybaby Apr 6, 2011 9:40 am

Please be advised that redemptions on BA are ridiculously expensive. Your 100K miles will get you a redemption in business from US to EU but you will still pay thousands of dollars in taxes and fuel charges. Yes, also if you book on BA.

It looks much better than it is. Really!

PS: If you have posted in this thread you are from now on forbidden to complain about fuel surcharges YQ+ charges etc. You have been warned!

If you log into EC, then Offers --> Credit Cards, it appears as 100K (for me). I didn't click anything from the OP's post and found it through ba.com.

I wish I could take advantage of this!

nmenaker Apr 6, 2011 10:53 am

You will most likely pay AT MOST 1000$ in taxes and fuel surchages for a business flight to europe.

I just paid 850$ each in taxes and fuel surcharges (granted before the additional 7% that hit in Feb and the NEW FS coming) for F tickets WITH STOPOVER in LHR (which adds something like 250$ to the price) to India.

pinkcat Apr 6, 2011 2:08 pm

its not April 1st , that was last week!

Swanhunter Apr 6, 2011 2:11 pm

For those new to BA and planning to take advantage of this offer, the thread below is essential reading in conjunction with the rest of the BA Dashboard.

UpliftingSound Apr 6, 2011 4:56 pm

If I redeemed BA miles for an itinerary completely on AA metal, would AA notice my AA status automatically? Or would I need to make them aware of it in some way since it would be under my BA number?

IFlyWhenIHave2 Apr 6, 2011 5:16 pm

Offer is now up on BA's website. Full offer details are present and easily printable.

I'm a FT newb. I only fly domestic. For business. 3-5 times per year.

As I understand the discussion, BA miles can be used to book award travel on American Airlines. Correct? I assume because they are in an alliance.

Is the relationship 1 to 1. If I get the card and earn the 100K miles, is it effectively the same as having an additional 100K miles in my AA account?

Or is there some value lost when redeeming BA miles to fly AA completely within the U.S.?

Appreciate any help.

Given you can buy a return to LHR for about $2400 during the sales, $1000 in taxes+YQ would probably dissuade me from ever redeeming on BA metal again.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm not sure which is worse - I'm a beneficiary of the original 100k offer myself. YQ doesn't bother me as I only use the miles to MFU, but I think even the stanchest defenders of BA on this board would agree that it is a questionable practice at best. At the same time, the constant "why are the fees so high" complaints do get tiresome, even if it is understandable where they are coming from.

DWFI Apr 6, 2011 8:12 pm

People in the US just aren't used to it.

My family is used to redeeming miles on DL and ST to Europe for miles + ~$50pp.
When they asked to use some of my BA miles to get to VIE and I told them that they could, providing they were willing to put down $600pp in fees, I was told that I'm a member of "the most useless frequent flyer program ever."

I just laughed.
It's a question of values.

Wadge Apr 7, 2011 6:40 am

Is this only for US residents or Europeans can apply as well? thx

If I am not currently an Executive Club member, should I sign up for a number first before applying for the card or will they automatically enroll me? THanks!
