Nice discount for BA miles via SPG

I'm posting this here because many of us transfer Starpoints to BAEC for the 25% bonus. Today I received an email stating that SPG points may be purchased at a 20% discount through May 31st. That could pose a good opportunity for a few people looking to top off their accounts.

Can you elaborate please. Are you saying I can open an SPG account, buy miles at a discount, transfer to BA for a bonus and end up better off than if I bought them direct off BAEC?

I can't answer the main thrust of your question, but I believe you need to have an SPG account for 30 days before you can buy points.

They had a discount offer in late 2009 too, I think it might have been 25% then though. Helped me get enough miles together for my F Amex 241 to SYD!

20,000 SPG points = $560/Ģ360 = 25,000 BA Miles?

That's pretty good!

I've used the Starpoints transfer option for a crafty top-up before. It can be very attractive depending on exchange rates.

I think the last time I did it Ģ1 bought about 2 Bush Pesos.

Any bets on Ģ1 being closer to US$2 by mid-May?

NOOOO

Be careful. I can't remember the exact rules but the account (SPG) must have been opened at least 30 days earlier

The transaction automatically becomes void if you open the account and on the same day buy SPG points

Thats a no no

I have a question on this. I took advantage of this offer in December, buying the maximum 20000 and transferring them. It says the limit is 20000 per calendar year.

If I bought them in Dec 2009, am I now in a new calendar year?
