Never mind the strike, Boeing are launching a plane today!
The New 787 has it's first test flight at 5:40PM GMT.

I'll believe it when I see it...
They have been trying to build and test the plane for years. It is already over 2 years late.
Once it is up in the air without anything falling off, I will the believe it.

"Duration: 5 hours 25 minutes.
Status: En Route (46 miles down; 61 miles to go)."
That's an average speed of under 20mph. I cant see the steam liners going out of business any time soon. It looked nice though: I watched the take-off live at work.

I used to work in Mukilteo & the planes would fly right over my location, just after lifting off (when the wind was from the South, as it is today). If I'd had the day off I would've driven up there. Exciting to see it in the air. The engines are HUGE!

I know I won't fly one of these for many years, but when I eventually do I won't be looking forward to those electronically controlled blackout windows.
I can just imagine the surly FAs blacking all the windows, so intead of seeing greenland from 35K feet we're forced to watch Dr. Doolittle XVII.

My office is about 15 miles south of Paine Field from where the 787 took off. We often see planes from Boeing when they take off but alas, the 787 took off to the north today.
