Baggage Allowance Question in China

I'm travelling LHR-PEK on a package holiday on Wednesday in WT+ and then returning later HKG-LHR.

I know that BA have a 23kg maximum luggage allowance now, and that they'll probably let me get away with more than this until 30 September.

However, I'm taking ttwo internal flights with China Eastern Airlines whilst in the country and their maximum luggage allowance is only 20kg (and you thought BA was bad )

Has anybody had any expirience with this and know if China Eastern are likely to enforce this 20kg rule?

It's not technically a BA question, but I'd appreciate any information if anybody has any expirience with flying within China.

Internal Chinese airlines do enforce the 20kg rule, and I would check the weighing scales are zeroed before you put your cases on them, as they are often not adjusted correctly (possibly deliberately). However, they do not seem to be bothered by heavy cabin baggage.

Oh they do charge!
On holiday in China 3 years ago and one of our group was 3 KG over on a China Eastern flight, US$120 excess baggage charge. It started off at over US$200 but by spreading some of his bag's contents into other of our group's bags he got the weight down.

Be warned.

IMHO Chinese cariers couldn't care less about weight if you are flying J or F internally, as the increased cost is often marginal on many Chinese flights it may be much more cost effective to just pay yourself up to a premium fare and avoid the luggage problem(s).

I've finished travelling through China. I managed to succesfully exceed 20kg on four separate flights (with China Eastern, Hainan and Dragonair) and also check-in two bags, without any mention of excess charges.

I was with a tour group of nine people, but don't see why that should make much difference.

I hope that helps any China travellers in the future.
