Why it takes longer to fly across the Atlantic

According to the BBC "North America and Europe are still moving in opposite directions at about the pace fingernails grow"

.... that must be why it takes longer to fly there now than years ago !!!

I thought it was a little odd that it took me 17 hours to get from ORD-LHR on the 286 yesterday. I had only been away a week but I am sure it only too 7.5 hours to get there. I don't remember the 4.5 hour stop in Dublin with a crew change on the way out either.

Known as "the scenic route"... or "two countries for the price of one" (assuming that they didn't charge you for the "stopover").
