Awaiting bags - T5 - 75 mins after arriving on stand

Just arrived from HAM, after waiting for stand for about 20 min, we have now been waiting for our bags for 75 minutes. Not a single bag has arrived.

Getting really frustrated, no announcements, no nothing. Just got a generic PA that they are working really hard.

Any advice, apart from just wait! 😁

If it gets to a point which is beyond ridiculous, which I imagine for most people would be a couple of hours, report your bag as missing to BA and let them deliver it to you. That's maybe not entirely in line with the Montreal Protocol, but equally it's not acceptable to make people wait all day. Perhaps if they end up having to pay the costs a bit more often it might persuade them they need to put more pressure on HAL to improve baggage handling.

If you need something in those bags that can't wait a couple of days, sit it out then complain to BA. You'll probably get a few thousand Avios chucked your way.

You can claim for reasonable expenses such as toiletries, clothes etc. if you do leave without your bag.

After 90 minutes, finally arrived.
Thank you for the advice. In future if the wait is too long I will do as advised.

There is little you can do to make the bags arrive faster, so its really about how long you wait v filing a missing bag claim as advised up thread.

I'm assuming from the OP's location that this is a return home. Given the bags are in LHR (presumably there's nothing to say they weren't loaded, so they're not officially lost) and the OP would get them back if prepared to wait long enough on the same day, this all probably falls under goodwill and I'm not confident the Montreal Protocol applies here.

BA has been known to push back on luggage claims when returning to your home, even when Montreal clearly applies, and I can see - given they would already have incurred costs getting a courier to deliver them - that they might well not automatically pay out on any further expense, particularly if it's for items that they might reasonably expect you to have at home already.

This would certainly be a situation where I'd spend the absolute bare minimum, just in case.

EDIT: I see, happily, the bags arrived while I was tying. OP, at 90 minutes I think that's worth a short complaint note to BA to see how many Avios they might chuck your way.

I had exactly the same issue last Thursday, also flying back from HAM at T5. Flight on-time, 1.5 hours, landed 4pm. By 5.30pm bags hadn't arrived. The wait for the bags was almost as long as the entire flight.

See Luggage took as long to deliver as the flight - FlyerTalk Forums

There are a few thread about luggage delays today. With strikes and weather it is not a great time to be flying.

Maybe the baggage handlers started their strike a couple of days early.

Or maybe not - just business as usual. (In which case will we notice when the handlers go on strike?)

I have previously had an announcement just before leaving the plane to the effect that they had no idea how long it would take to unload bags so please feel free to just go home and file a missing bag report online.

Its been like that ( some days just ok some days terrible) since early summer. Lets not find another excuse for BAs poor performance.

BA do their own baggage handling at Heathrow. Only if it's a system problem is it Heathrow's responsibility.

I had to wait 3 hours for my bags at Manchester Airport in July! Shocking that airports still haven't got this sorted

It was an hour last week. Funny how they blamed it on the cold weather, doubt it was that cold in July.
