GRU Transit questions

I will be flying SCL-GRU via Swiss Air business class, I then have approxiamately 5 hours to cool my heels before boarding a UA flight to IAD. I've heard that the GRU terminal is extremely confusing and difficult to navigate. Are LX and UA in the same terminal? How does immigration work?

Also, what can I do for 5 hours in GRU? I am *G so perhaps I can hang out in a lounge - any recommendations?

Thanks for your help in advance!

My airside transits for intl-to-intl at GRU haven't involved clearing Brazilian immigration.

GRU airside transits are not my idea of paradise. Bring your own entertainment.

Yes, I believe both are in the same Terminal, but even if they are not you shouldnt have to go through customs. And the terminals are connected through the airside, not difficult at all to go to one from the other.

Theres a RCC on Terminal 1 (from where UA leaves), not sure if it will be open the time you get there. Definately bring your own entertainment.

Wow, I didn't realize that I wouldn't be going through customs. That is very helpful to know. I appreciate the info.

Are there any restaurants airside? Any shops?

Yes, a few shops and cafes. Brasif duty free is not so large, but prices are decent. There's also H Stern duty free, selling jewelry at about 20% less than in their regular Brazilian stores and about half the price of what they cost in the USA and Europe.

You wont be going through customs. It's a pure airside transfer and if anyone tells you otherwise, they're mistaken.

Do be aware that you can easily be waved into the wrong line by not repeating the one word 'transit'.

There are loads of shops airside.

If I were you, go park yourself in the RCC for a while, then do the shops when you're ready.
