Gift Ideas from Brazil?
Our friend is presently in Brazilia for the first time and is asking what he should bring home as gifts for the ladies in his life. I have never been to Brazil and have no idea what to tell him.
I (and he) would be most appreciative if anyone could give us some ideas for gifts that are representative of Brazil, especially those that a woman would like. Many thanks!

There are some great bargains to be had on the sale table of the gift shop in the basement of H.Stern.
I bought some great tumbled quartz(amythyst, citrine, rutilated quartz)necklaces for $29 each-these cost around $100 at gem shows and much more at retail.
Also-next door at Amsterdam Suaer they have some lovely pieces with native stones at very fair prices.Almost all tax and duty free.
Brazil also ptoduces some very high quality cotton goods.Bath robes and beach towels with some wild/pretty patterns can be found in the better malls and in Ipanema.

Brasilia also has a small H Stern store (it is located inside Conjunto Nacional shopping mall). GRU (not sure about GIG) also have a H Stern store. The idea to buy gems is indeed very good one.

If they enjoy drinks, you could bring back a bottle of Cachaa (also called pinga and other names). It is made from sugar cane and can be mixed with lime and sugar to make a "caipirinha", a tasty and sweet drink, very characterisic of Brazil.
