This thread is apparently about how to fix the problem described above, but as far as I can make out it doesn't provide a solution.
What Kevincm has described is a list of cookies created when you go to the site. If you delete them, then it recreates them next time you visit. Therefore you have to do this after every time you log out or in some cases time out. Therefore this isn't really a solution. Its slightly better than logging in after every page but given the number of mouse clicks it takes it doesn't actually save much time on an average visit to the site.
diamond club's solution, as correctly pointed out by David-A, is attempting to solve an entirely different problem altogether to the one being experienced by most people.
Oxon's spot from the website (and I'm not shooting the messenger) is probably the most ridiculous of all. Not only won't it solve the problem but it could also cause a lot of heartache by deleting important stuff most people want to keep.
Logging in to home country first doesn't work for me. It kind of works if I don't leave a logged in page, but if for example I go to "Book now" then back to view my account, I find myself logged out.
I have both IE and Firefox, latest versions of both, and neither works. This is usually a clear indicator of a website rather than a computer problem.
I'm posting this really just to alert DC to the fact that as far as I'm concerned there is still a fault somewhere and despite best attempts by everyone, within and outside DC, none of the solutions posted seem to be working for me.

And I'm posting to agree with lhr baby - this is an ongoing problem, for which the official fix is ridiculous

I am having problems when looking at the calendar regarding redemption flights. I get to the calendar, select the dates, choose Economy or Business (doesn't matter which!) and press to continue. It logs me out.
I have tried this at work, at home and on my mobile. Same problem every time. I am trying to avoid phoning the ICC and want to know more than there are various types of seats available.

And edit to add:
no problem looking for one way flight LHR-DME, but get this problem looking for a return, and indeed looking for a single DME-LHR... huh?
