Question Is it possible to use GUVs while crediting to another *A program?

Hi,

I am wondering if it would be possible to use the Gold Upgrade Vouchers for a flight between US and Manchester (and back) if crediting to another Star Alliance program such as UA Mileage Plus?

Thanks,

It should be. Last time I used a GUV a few weeks ago, my FF number wasn't even in the booking so I didn't get the miles - didn't affect my use of the voucher though.

As long as you have your gold card with you, there should be no problem.

Or the Gold Card apology letter in lieu of a card for those of us not blessed with the little piece of plastic.

I dont think the program you are crediting will make any difference, as long as the ticket is a BMI tcket.

OT- as someone who has not used GUVs before but hopefully will soon (two DME trips coming up soon with empty C cabin), how do they work? It says show at the time of check in and make yourself known at the gate. Does it work as smoothly as it says?

Yes. Ive always just given the voucher at checkin and have been lucky to always get the upgraded boarding card there and then. But ive seen it happen at the gate once too. Very straightforward. Just the same process.

I have also always been successful with the GUV's. I would suggest getting to check-in early and ask the check-in person about using a GUV as soon as you hand over your documents. If there are any spaces available you should get the upgrade and they will assign the upgraded seat and put the signed/scribbled on GUV in your ticket. If not, make yourself known at the gate in case any "no shows" create availability. Good Luck.
