Unhappy Are we getting a Moderator ??

According to a post in Community Buzz by Randy this board is about to get a Moderator. I must say I am a little disappointed to hear this as one of the cool things about this little board was the fact one has never really been needed.

Oh well....

I received a PM out of the blue from Randy yesterday asking me if I would be prepared to be a moderator. I agree that there's not much here to moderate, but ask not what your bulletin board can do for you but what you can do for your bulletin board etc. I can't for the life of me imagine that I'll be particularly busy in this new role.

My understanding is that I will not be alone, and there will also be a supervising moderator, but it's up to Randy (or they themselves) to announce who they are in his/their own time.

Fair enough. Congratulations Wingnut, a good choice. ^

As you say, I can't imagine you'll be busy. Unless BD p!ss us all off again and things get a little heated like they did last time.

Although you'll not really need it, Good Luck !!

Indeed, a good choice, if one was necessary at all. ^ ^

Your understanding is correct, I got a similar unexpected PM from Randy yesterday asking if I would consider the job, possibly sharing with another. Not that it's much of a job, since we'd all rather not have a moderator at all...but there you go.

It's up to Randy to explain further, I suppose.

Long live the Logs!!!

I'm reminded of the Aesop fable about the Frogs who wanted a King (brief summary here - although it's more the 'Frogs who got a King' in this case)

May your rule be a long and wise one!

I'm not sure whether, allegorically speaking, I'm a log or a frog. But I'm fairly sure that Randy's Zeus...

We all certainly welcome wingnut, ajamieson and Markie to assisting members in this forum.

To put any concerns aside, it was never discussed that this forum "needed" a moderator. The first role of a moderator is to be around when a newbie might need some directions or guidance either within this forum or elsewhere on FlyerTalk. We are very appreciative that our current members already do this, a moderator is here only for fallback when any member is missing some help.

But really, this allows wing and aj to get some experience in the role and perhaps they may go on to assist members in other forums not related to bmi.

But again, this forum does not have any reputation requiring any moderators but the decision to assign someone here goes along with my personal goals to have greeters in every forum on FlyerTalk. It is our hope that besides being a bastion of information about frequent flyer miles, points and travel, we'll also be known for our friendly nature.

Welcome all and thanks to the many members here who have made this forum so easy to manage over the years.

Surely it will be more safe for me to visit this hidden corner of flyertalk in the dark, now that Markie the sheriff and his deputies are on duty. Castle Donnington is not the place I want to be caught alone in the dark by some of the strange figures around here...

No, really: Good to have some mods assigned. Let's think of having a concierge around when you need one...

I've been a lurker here for quite some time - maybe I now feel comfortable enough to post the one time or the other... BTW: I'm on BD751 to LAS tomorrow and back on sunday - in eco... Anybody else aboard?

I cannot think of two people more helpful and capable in assisting and moderating the bmi forum than ajamieson and wingnut. ^ ^

Even though wingnut's taste in cufflinks leaves something to be desired.

We're well hidden, occasionally friendly but often in the dark. A bit like bmi, really

and let's hope ajamieson does a better job of welcoming newcomers than he's been doing lately

If only BMI had a nice 'gentle' virtual nursery like wot this is for their executive material to gain experience in before being let loose in the real world...
