AMS to VCE in August
Hope someone can help me out with this.
I need to get from AMS to VCE in August and I went to the bmi web site and saw that I can't book on one ticket AMS to VCE that I have to book it as two seperate tickets via LHR.
I've got two basic questions to ask:
1) How much time should I leave between the two flights? I have multiple choices from AMS to LHR, but only one choice from LHR to VCE.
2) Will I be able to check my luggage through to VCE when checking in at AMS?
In advance thanks for your help.

I would allow a minimum 1 hour 30 minutes for the connection, and would ideally allow 2 for a more relaxed experience. You will arrive and leave from the same terminal (Terminal 1) at LHR, and will not need to clear UK immigration or customs, but WILL need to go through security (and to do that you will be sent over to the Flight Connections Centre which is in a building adjoining Terminal 1).
The main reason I would allow the time is that air traffic delays are not unusual on shorter routes into LHR. These are not usually too bad but the times suggested above should ensure that you aren't going to miss the connection if you are held up.
2) Will I be able to check my luggage through to VCE when checking in at AMS?
Absolutely. You will even get your boarding pass and seat assignment at AMS if you tell them you have the onward connection.
Lastly, if you're based in the US it may be worth calling bmi's reservations line ( 1-800 788 0555) and seeing if they can ticket everything on one itinerary for you. If they can't do that, they should be able to make a note in the record of your AMS-LHR flight that you have an onward bmi flight to VCE).
In advance thanks for your help.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought those would be the answers but wanted to check on it anyway.
The flights we are thinking about would be BD104 AMS-LHR (Web fare 40.00 EUR) and then BD467 LHR-VCE (Web fare 18.00 GBP).
Are fares for calling reservations that much different then the web fares I quoted above?
And thanks for the 800# to call reservations. I will try that out in the next few days.
FT is great, I don't make many posts but read it all the time.

I would book this on another travel site e.g. Expedia, this way you will get both sector on a single PNR which may make thing simpler
I took a quick look on Expedia (AMS-VCE) and if you specify bmi as the airline they will show BD104 connecting onto BD467. Giving 3hr 15 to connection. If you enter the itinery as a multi-leg trip i.e. AMS-LHR-VCE then you can choose the next light BD106 which only give 55 mins connection.
As mentioned previously, both flights are from Terminal 1, and depending on which gate you arrive at and which gate you are flying rom you may just be able to walk straight to the new gate. They have been putting increased security points around the terminal and segregating some arriving and departing passengers but if you arrive at the main pier (lower gate numbers) you shouldn't get delayed by security.
If you have the time or then the earlier flight would be best as you have the second flight as fall back.
In any event if you book through expedia you can get the flights issued on a single itinery and avoid paying the CC surcharge on BMI. Expedia can also issue the ticket as a e-ticket if available.

bmi telephone reservations are likely to be a bit more expensive than the website (you won't get the EUR18 fare - that is only available from the bmi website). You've nothing to lose by calling to check.

Tall Bloke,
The only issue to booking it on Expedia (which I already checked) is that the cost is more than double what the bmi web site is showing for their web fare.

I think it depends on whether either of the sectors are on the BD Web only fare as expedia may not be able to access this inventory
