Creative Itineraries now that LH-owned airlines are gone

Ideas for creative itineraries now that LH-owned airlines are gone...and some questions.

Europe - Asia: Best bet = TG and OZ, SQ (limited availability)

Intra Europe: TAP, TK, SAS Other ideas?

Will BD now allow stopovers in Zone 1 / 2 if travelling long-haul ?

Are open-jaws allowed on one-way awards through Europe?

Is there a way to search for awards excluding LH-owned airlines?

Perhaps we can list our creative itineraries and successful bookings?

TG seems good for Asia - booked a o/w yesterday VTE-GVA through FRA (OK, with last leg LH, but...).

But for some reason, I wanted a direct OSL-BKK on the return (which exists as I have the wife booked on it already), but they could not see it on their system...

Any ideas why that would be???

No, not OS. They're part of the LH "Family", along with SN and LX.

For intra-European, you're pretty much stuffed. You've got SK and TP, and TK at a stretch.

What LH's little trantrum has done is make it nigh-on impossible to do Central Europe (because routings like LHR-CPH-ZRH are ridiculously long, and LHR-LIS-ZRH will get knocked out on MPM rules), and routings that connect like LHR-FRA (SQ)SIN/(TG)BKK.

It also dramatically reduces TATL inventory (to US, UA and AC), and African inventory (to BD and SA).

Only Asia is (relatively) unaffected because OS only operated VIE-BKK, and LX only does ZRH-BKK, and LH usually runs in parallel to SQ/TG to places like SIN, BKK, KUL. That leaves CA, OZ, SQ, TG, TK and MS all providing inventory to Asia and beyond.

OS is owned by lufthansa - did you mean oz (asiana)?
Also consider ana, sk and air nz (lhr-hkg) for asia, or if needed air china. For europe sk is fine in C.

KF, A3, JP and LO are also options for Europe. Not so for inta-Europe travel, but rather to create itineraries that connect to long haul networks.

For Africa you also have ET (Ethiopian).

Does BD allow open-jaws on o/w or r/t redemptions?

Is there a way to search for awards excluding LH-owned airlines?

How can a o/w be an open jaw?

Use this tool. while it won't allow you to exclude certain airlines, it will allow you to filter the results which may help a little (by filtering connecting points).

Yes, I have done so before.

MAD - BKK - KMG + LJG - CTU with open-jaw between Kunming and Lijiang.

yes, you can book open jaw return on one booking provided the return is to the same Zone as the outgoing. the rule is on the BD website somewhere - I think on the redemptions table footnotes.

In any case it might give you more flexibility (an extra stopover, potentially the ability to change the return after you commenced the outgoing leg) if you book an open jaw as 2 standalone bookings anyway.

Yes please! does anyone's award search engine have a way of excluding all LH-owned airlines? currently I just deselect all airlines, then re-select all those I know are not LH group.

LO is part of the LH/M&M family, so they're not an option. so is JP, so neither are they.

KF is pretty much Finland domestic + Finland<->Scandinavia routes.

Wondering if now, that LH is gone, there are additional options that were not available before. For example: MAA served by LH and TG -- is now let's say LHR-BKK-MAA on TG a valid routing since nothing shorter is available on *A (similar to the KTM thing)?

Out of interest, what are QR redemption rates? I flew with them to DXB and was very impressed.

Now.. do you think we can get BA in Club World for 37.5k + 210 + taxes??
