Redemption Help Needed!!

Hi

Wife and I are hoping to go to Japan and a beach location in January. As such using the ANA tool and other helpful hints and tips we have found these options - yet the price seems high to me - ??!!? Please could someone check i am doing the journey the most efficently.

We chose Bangkok as a city destination for two nights and then we would get the bus to Hua Hin for the beach location. We will be in tokyo for two nights.

Dates of travel 6th Jan Outbound 17th Jan return

We live in North East England but we are willing to travel if needed.

The journey log we have found using ANA is:

CPH - NRT In C 18750 + 127.50 M + C Tax 119

NRT - BKK In C 11,000 + 75 M + C Tax 52

BKK - MUC - MAN In C 30,000 + 202 M + C Tax 127

Total for two:

120,000 Miles + 809 + Taxes of 596

I have not done many redemptions but this seems high??

If anyone knows how we could do the journey more efficently we would be appreciative. We would be willing to spend more cash and miles for a decent first class journey - yet we struggled to get connections as needed.

You will notice we have to purchase a flight to CPH from Man which is 140 for two.

Please help!!

I have approx 140,000 Miles Wife has 120,000 approx

It could be two one way
the first as you find
CPH - NRT In C 18750 + 127.50 M + C Tax 119
and the second
NRT-BKK (stop over) - MUC-MAN
in C 26,250 + 180 M + C + Taxes

so for two 90,000 miles + 615 + Taxes

Smile If only i understood!!

I plead my ignorance but from the above journey i am not sure how you can do exactly the same routine but then get it for less miles; admittidly i do not fully understand what the stop over rule is... would that give me time to go to the beach and enjoy some time in Bangkok?

How does the stop over work?

To save 30K miles and some cash would be excellent - would someone explain??

Because there is some outside of the box thinking going on.

You book the trip as 2x one ways. It also gives you the flexibility to change the return leg if your plans change as well.

Anyway, basically what G_G is saying is that you do the outbound as a Z2-Z8 (CPH-NRT). You can then stop over in NRT as long as you need to, as that is the final destination on that ticket. As an aside, you'll save yourself a heap of APD in the process.

The the return is a Z8-Z1 starting in NRT. But because you will also have booked this as a one way, you can then have a stopover in BKK, again for as long as you need.

You can also then book a side trip to the beach, either as a separate award or as a paid ticket within the dates of your BKK stopover (or even a bus journey ). You then resume your journey in BKK for your final homeward journey back to MAN.

This is only possible by booking the trip as 2 one-ways. A return would only allow you a stopover in NRT for the duration of your stay.

Simples.

Smile Thanks

Ah two one way tickets!

I understand. Is this always the case that you could have one stop over?

Would it be the case that even if i had to change planes in zone 2 on the return i would only pay for the zoning to the final destinaion. ie. NRT - BKK - ARN - MAN.

I would stop in BKK for a period of time but then fly back via stockholm (zone 2) as the timings are better. would that count as a Z8 to Z1 redemption? what about if i stopped in a place to change planes that was Z1 - ie. Z8 - Z2 via Z1 for instance MUC does that count as a Z8 - Z2 redemption or a Z8?

Thanks for the help people have already given.

p.s how would it save tax as you mentioned above??^

Save tax: UK APD is less for an intra-European flight than a long-haul.
