You need to do it segment by segment (i.e. one part at a time) rather than a single route. However for all those segments including on Lufthansa £300 doesn't sound too unreasonable.

Another tip: Try and get business class (I) all the way, even on the BMI flights it will give you a free sandwich and lounge access if there is availability.

Hi thanks for that I did break it down but ITA shows no flights available. I think its due to the fact that only economy available from DUB so it fails as I requested business or higher. ICC just called to say the YQ part of the £300+ is £247 LH YQ should be around £115 so that leaves £130 between BD UA and NZ I was thinking No YQ with NZ so total YQ would be around £150

cal

Managed to workout the ITA page this is the result

Irish Passenger Charge (UP) $10.70
Irish Air Travel Tax (LQ) $13.90
NZ YQ surcharge (YQ) $80.00
USDA APHIS Fee (XA) $10.00
US Immigration Fee (XY) $14.00
US Customs Fee (YC) $11.00
United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB) $36.50
US International Arrival Tax (US) $32.20
US International Departure Tax (US) $32.20
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $5.00
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $9.00
Mexican Airport Departure Tax (XD) $34.25
Mexican Tourist Tax (UK) $20.36
German Airport Security Tax (DE) $5.40
German Passenger Service Charge (RA) $13.40

BMI redemption newbie here.

I am looking for a return MAN-MUC in Y in June 2011 with LH using mu BMI miles.

Expedia have quoted a return fare of £93.54. I rang the ICC to see if redemption was possible and was told that the taxes were £105pp.

ITA tells me this:

Fare 1: Carrier LH ENN9D1 MAN to MUC (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code E
Covers MAN-MUC (Coach)
£15.50
Fare 2: Carrier LH ENN9D1 MUC to MAN (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code E
Covers MUC-MAN (Coach)
£15.50
LH YQ surcharge (YQ) £5.20
United Kingdom Air Passengers Duty (GB) £12.00
United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB) £13.64
German Airport Security Tax (DE) £4.50
German Passenger Service Charge (RA) £15.70
German Air Transport Tax (OY) £7.00

Subtotal per passenger £89.04
Number of passengers x1

TOTAL AIRFARE & TAXES £89.04

I read (above) that DC may charge J taxes on redemptions. Is this the case? Does it change if I book Cash + Miles?

Ultimately, am I better off just booking direct with Expedia? Seems bonkers.

Cheers,

Andy

No, and No.

LH website shows £58.04 taxes and surcharges, so that is what you should be paying for a redemption too, unless, of course, you are routing on a connection through LHR, for example.

So what could be the reason for the ICC quoting £105pp.

I rang back and double checked.

YQ would be my guess. Book directly with LH and their YQ is £5.20 (!!!) for both flights.

Book with bmi and the YQ jumps to £50.80 for the same flights. Total taxes quoted via flybmi.com comes to £100.40 if booked as a codeshare. Add on a credit card fee and the total is almost £105. Bonkers? Absolutely.

ITA tells me this:

United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB) £13.64
ITA is wrong. MAN UB is around £10 for domestic and European flights.

Thanks all.

I got back on the phone and got them to run the dummy booking, I specified I wanted a LH flight and the total taxes ended up being £58.04.

Job done.

DC award taxes check?

Booked an award trip in C (zone 2-3 and back) and wanted to check if the YQ and other surcharges/taxes are correct. Tickets have been issued and can be seen under 'checkmytrip.com'. But no details about taxes etc there.

Used to check on the amadeus ITR site, but both the asia one (eitr.amadeusasia.com) as well as the Hongkong one (www.hk.itr.amadeus.com/index.aspx) cannot access the booking reference.

Haggled my way through ITA software, but amount displayed there does not match what I was quoted/charged. Any suggestions or ideas welcome.

Need more details...like date, route etc

Does CMT show an e-ticket receipt tab?

Edit: Going to take a stab that this is the OSL-SMF and back that you posted on the successful redemptions thread.

LH YQ surcharge (YQ) £107.90
Norway Passenger Charge (ZN) £12.70
USDA APHIS Fee (XA) £3.20
US Immigration Fee (XY) £4.50
US Customs Fee (YC) £3.60
German Airport Security Tax (DE) £4.40
German Passenger Service Charge (RA) £13.60
US International Arrival Tax (US) £10.40
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) £4.80
US International Departure Tax (US) £10.40
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) £2.90

£178.28 total

LH YQ is the biggest culprit. Out of interest what have you been quoted?

Tiger_lily,

Could you check the taxes etc on my recent awards, please.

I tried the ITA tool and it gave less than the ICC charged:

Flight out is 16th Feb, return 12 Mar to Sin, 15 Mar to LHR.

Many thanks. FG

Booked Thai 1st suites from CDG - BKK, then Airbus 1st to SYD (Eastjet from GLA to CDG at £50 each and Qantas at £90 each SYD to Cairns)

Then return in C from SIN to BKK, three nights in BKK and TG 1st in 747 to LHR. BMI Premium Economy to EDI.

Cost (for two):

Fare: GBP1,525.00

Taxes/Surcharges: GBP829.60

Credit Card Fee: GBP9.00

Miles: 225,000

Looking at one tool, I think they have overcharged for taxes - I reckon they should have been around £380 each.

If the taxes/charges come to within 15% of my reckoning then I'm happy. The difference might be down to fluctuating currency rates or a contribution to the ICC Do fund.

FG,

ITA will display this if you do it as a multi-city routing

Outbound:

TG YQ surcharge (YQ) £156.00
TG YQ surcharge (YQ) £6.40
French Aviation Civile Tax (FR) £6.40
French International Passenger Service Charge (QX) £19.90
French Airport Tax (FR) £10.80
French Air Passenger Solidarity Tax (IZ) £34.00
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) £16.20

£250.15 pp

Inbound

TG YQ surcharge (YQ) £97.80
TG YQ surcharge (YQ) £6.40
Singapore Passenger Service Charge (SG) £6.90
Singapore Aviation Levy (OP) £3.00
Singapore Passenger Security Service Charge (OO) £4.00
Thailand Passenger Service Charge (TS) £15.00
BD YQ surcharge (YQ) £3.00
United Kingdom Air Passengers Duty (GB) £12.00
United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB) £13.60

£161.93 per person

So by my rough calculations about £824 in total, which is about spot on with what they have charged you allowing for exchange rate fluctuations
