A couple minor changes noted

I got an Avis First free weekend cert recently. The email has a link to make a reservation using the e-coupon. It automatically put the coupon code in for me. I wonder if it would have done so if I had selected an ineligible date or location.

I also have started getting miles (on Virgin) for leisure rentals from my local Avis agent (an independent location) where I never did before. I wonder what brought that change about, not that I'm complaining. (1000 miles for a 2 day, $41 rental).

Are you saying that you were denied Virgin miles at your local Avis location in the past, or that you were denied miles on other airlines? I was never able to earn miles or HHonors points on local Avis rentals until I learned (here on FT) that local Avis rentals do earn Virgin miles. So I'm not sure that there's been any "change" in policy.

By the way, does Hertz have a Hertz Local Edition near you? Until September 30, you can earn 3,000 Virgin miles with any Hertz rental using the Virgin CDP and PC codes. Details can be found in the FT Hertz forum, or under "My Offers" after you sign into your Virgin Flying Club account.

My local luck went from none to spotty when I switched to Virgin. Sometimes I'd get 500 miles, sometimes 1,000, sometimes none. It has since, for the last few months, gone to perfect: 1,000 miles every local rental.

Thanks for the Hertz tip. Yes, one opened up a couple months ago. Our little town now has a choice of Avis, Hertz & Enterprise.
