iTunes replacement partner - Emusic - blecch!

I got a Christmas greeting email from Avis which included a "gift" of five free downloads from eMusic; a website source of independent music. Avis has announced that this is their online music partner for 2008.

Well, I am glad to offer the code here to someone that would be interested in it. If you redeem the code, please post here so others don't waste their time.

Enjoy!

I just got it. Is there a way to redeem it w/o subscribing to eMusic?

blecch is right. I did a free trial of eMusic earlier this year and it sucked.

I am not an iTunes person but really enjoyed the experience using the coupons. This eMusic is strange - did not have the stuff I looked for (e.g. Elliott Yamin), Web UI was bad and I really don't trust them enough to download their program...

Too bad this is a gift that cannot be exchanged

(Added Emusic to title of thread for clarity)

Disappointing indeed.

And strangely, no email here. Off to look at my junk mail. Do we need to register to receive the songs with each rental (assuming it'll work similar to iTunes) or will past registration suffice?

It was an Avis First email, which is why you probably didn't get it.

I am the OP, got the Xmas greeting and eMusic code. My status is President's Club.

If others have no interest in their codes, please consider posting them here for the 1% out there that enjoy eMusic.

I got the email and haven't bothered yet. What is the problem with emusic? I'm not looking for songs from American Idol contestants.

I was confused by the statement "once redeemed, codes are valid for 30 days".

I received the e-mail with the Christmas card but haven't looked at Emusic yet. I was sorry to see the i-Tunes association end. Especially the double music bonus.

That means that the redeemed code is stored in your account. You don't need to use it immediately.

Ah. I was afraid the music vaporized on your hard drive after 30 days.

I got my 5 credits from Avis First, but am having a difficult time finding songs that I want. From their web page:

"eMusic sells music from more than 20,000 labels and 130,000 artists in the universally-compatible MP3 format at an affordable price. We strongly believe in independent music and its culture, and do not currently carry many mainstream, Top 40 artists."

I agree that it's a poor substitute for iTunes. I switched my weekly rentals to Avis until the last iTunes promotion ran out. I won't be doing that for any eMusic promotions.

My suggestion would be to not redeem any of these. That would send the best message to Avis First- we do not see this as a valuable reward, so ....

PLEASE go back to partnerning with iTunes.

I can see there are quite a few fellow leather-butt, hardened road warriors out there.

The itunes promotion had caught me by suprise, and the plentiful award tunes ROCKED my world.

As soon as it ended, so did my enthusiasm. Unfortunately Hertz similarly seems to lack an IQ for the customer. Guess we can't have everything in life.
