Upgrade coupon codes...

Right, so I've asked for this previously and assumed that it was probably something that I had to wait to see until the New Year relating to replacement coupon codes for free car class upgrades on AVIS.

This is what a few minutes of searching has come up with:

United Airlines:
https://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/html/pa.../index_ua.html
- Free One Class Upgrade
- Free Day on Weekly Rental
- Earn Double United Miles
Reuseable, but doubt you can 'stack' the benefits on a single trip

Midwest Miles:
http://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/html/par.../index_mw.html
- Free One Class Upgrade + 1000 bonus miles

Delta:
http://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/html/par...2-22539-4240-5
- Free One Class Upgrade + 1000 bonus miles

America West:
http://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/html/par...2-22539-4240-3
- Free One Class Upgrade + 1000 bonus miles

Personally, I was hoping that Continental was going to renew their deal with AVIS but it doesn't appear to be so on their website. No matter, at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter which airline you're flying.

I usually use our corporate discount AWD code (can't tell you so don't ask) + AVIS Preferred number + a free car upgrade from whatever airline. I usually show them my AVIS card and present hte printed out coupon. This means I usually do end up standing at the counter for a few minutes while they get a different car for me but it's worth it since I usually got on 1-3 week business trips. I do /not/ want to end up with a Corolla or something!

Hope this helps some of you out. And Happy New Year.

Awesome thanks for this - have just saved $50 on a 2 week rental from BUF to LGA and only had to book a mid size. Used the UA codes. Still costs $750 (with a $100 one way fee) but was better than some of the other codes I had tried including the ASAP code and one of ezmonee's codes. Seems like lots of the codes don't work once you enter Australia as your country of residence.

Does anyone know if it is ok to take a car hired in the US into Canada? And for that matter across US state borders I assume is OK?

Cheers, Paul

No problem. I use to do it all the time between Washington state and British Columbia (both directions US/CDN hired cars). There are always restrictions about taking a US car into Mexico of course.

However, if you're intending on driving it across NA or across country (USA), you might want to write a quick email to AVIS to double check. I don't think they have issues with it, but I do remember renting cars from Thrifty-IAH and reading that they needed to know if you're going to take the car outside of Texas or Louisana states (or there will be penalities).

For the UA coupons listed in the OP's first post, do we need a give them a physically printed coupon or will the coupon code in the reservation be good enough?

You do need to book using the link in the United page I included. But you could do it manually and punch in UUAA084.

I just checked into AVIS at SJU, booked an Intermediate and got a full sized brand new Ford Taurus. Yeah, I know its a Taurus but it's new and its got a V6 engine. Trust me, anything is better than those Malibus and Corollas. I did print out that website to give to the desk clerk who did keep it. So I'd recommend printing it out.

Cheers
