Avis Preferred Select?

Has anyone ever found a good offiical (e.g. Avis web site) listing of:

a) The privileges of Preferred Select above and beyond "regular" preferrred?
b) The qualifying criteria for preferred select?

Used to be automatic upgrades. Reserve compact get midsize minimum. I can't remember when I was not upgraded. Qualification was based on number of rentals in a year. I think it was 12 per year but maybe more. I think I read around here that Avis was changing the Select program but I haven't followed it. There is a specific Preferred Select website with coupons that are rarely useful, at least to me.

Try this out - it's all here:

Thanks for this!

BTW, I sent a note to Avis about this via the web site and they told me that "Select" was "by invitation only" - my issue with this is that they did not automatically progress me into Select even though I met the qualifying criteria. Avis seemed rather unapologetic about this...any experiences?

It caught me by surprise when I was invited to join. I wasn't aware of the program.
Perhaps part of their criteria for initial invite is revenue produced? I had a high percentage of high dollar rentals. (compacts for $70+/day).

I originally got it for being a top tier member in a ff program. I haven't found it to be any big deal really . . . Think other threads on the topic have argued that point.

But it is nice to have another sort of top tier (there is an even more exclusive level above that isn't there?).

BlondeBomber, like you I'm from Canada, however my 25+ Avis rentals have been in the US. Is this AVIS Select for US residents only?

Cheers.

Thanks for the great thread...didn't know they had extra levels. Just called the virginia office where preferred is based and they upgraded me to Select immediately while I was on the phone with them and apoligized for having overlooked me. Told me presidents level was only for CEOs...would be interested to know how to get to this level?

Thanks,

sou'wester ^

Canadian residents can be Preferred Select. But some of the benefits (free rental days, free airline ticket) are only for US residents.

Has anyone found a way to check on their status towards preferred select? Avis.com only has a few months of rental history, so how do you know exactly how many rentals you've had in the last 18 months?

I have been Preferred Select for a number of years so as LG says it is open to more than US residents.

ask your company travel agent to contact avis directly. when i had called avis directly they told me i have to wait till september (they put people in select status only quarterly) but when i went through my firm travel agent i was in preferred select in less than 5 mins!
so its worth a try...

Guys, it's not that big a deal. Sometimes the upgrades come through, sometimes they don't -- it seems to depend on the station. Sometimes you get a free Wall Street Journal on your dash, sometimes you don't. There's no extra level of service or rewards for renting more cars. The Preferred Select website has less functionality and usability than the normal website, so I don't use it. It just isn't worth obsessing about.

Just get the Avis number and they throw the Preferred Select card at you after you rent a few times.
