Amazon strips the 16 strips are cut into 3 strips resulting in 48 strips. I remove the strips after each trip. My July trip drive from Columbus, Ohio to the NY Hudson Valley thru Pennsylvania and NJ did not result in any double charges. I did not register the plate to my NY EZ Pass. My tolls for the trip were approximately $120.

I left the pass attached to the windshield below the rental car box. I have a scraper in my keychain which makes removal easy. I removed the pass when parking in NYC at the Yankees game.

I trust you know that the NY E-Z Pass Service Center will, upon request, send you replacement mounting strips free of charge.

Yes, I rent frequently in EZ Pass states 3-5 times per month. I use a lot of strips. With the storage case, I have been able to reuse the strips after removing from the windshield.

If you rent a lot and have your own pass just get a suction cup holder, it's much easier than dealing with mounting strips all the time: eg:

However, recently I have been getting charged a toll when trying to use my on NY State issued Ez Pass. The transponder box is closed but somehow it is not reading my own Ez Pass This is on RFK Bridge usually. I have been holding it up as I go under the reader. I haven't tried to use the App to fill in the plates. Any similar experiences, something change recently?
You should have your personal transponder affixed to the windshield of the rental car. There are suction cup mounts for E-ZPass available on Amazon which work quite well for this.

There's also a version that holds the transponder in a small bag and hangs from the rear view mirror.
