Spouse as extra driver

In the online reservations tool, in the Extras section, there's a box to tick for an extra driver. Ticking that box adds $xx.xx/day to the cost of the rental. But right there it also says that there is no extra charge for a spouse, although there is no way at that point to identify the extra driver as a spouse. So what is the best practice? Do you tick the box and then the agent will remove the charge when you collect the car? Or do you not tick the box and have the agent add the spouse for free when you collect the car? Or do you just take the car and go, with you and the spouse driving interchangeably as you wish? TIA.

This ^^^. Spouses are automatically authorized drivers as per Budget's terms and conditions so there is no need to add them to the rental contract.
