Upgrade from Class W?
Am Avis preferred member. I know an upgrade (which many preferred members get by just asking politely), may be from intermediate to premium or compact suv to standard SUV or standard SUV to full size suv. But what about between SUV and sedans? Like is a Standard SUV to a premium/luxury an upgrade or possible?
I rented once in the past. Booked a Ford Fusion, was assigned a Hyundai Accent, and ending up picking a Mazda Cx-5, which the agent agreed to give me.
If I'm assigned a Ford Edge or Jeep Grand Cherokee (class W), can I ask for an Infiniti Q50, Volvo S60, Mustang/Camaro, or even a Jaguar XE and be upgraded to one of those cars. Their prices are similar to ClassW cars (if not cheaper I/e: Ford Edge titanium) and definitely cheaper than a Tahoe.

Can you ask? Sure, there's no harm in asking. However, I'd be surprised to go from an SUV->premium/lux/specialty. While the sticker price might be similar on the cars, I'd doubt any agent would care about that aspect.

I mean, I've seen most people on this thread who booked a standard/intermediate/premium sedan like an Elantra and get like a Suburban/Tahoe. I'm hoping my Jeep Grand Cherokee can be a good bargaining chip for a lxuury Infiniti/Volvo or a select series car

It doesn't work that way. That's not "most people". They either got the upgrade by chance through the app, which only works at select locations, or because there was little else available. You don't march up to the counter and "bargain" for something completely different.

Thanks. Thats fine with me. I just don't want to drive such a big SUV. Is it possible I can ask for a downgrade at the counter (like a Mazda CX-5 or Mazda6). Can I also ask to switch if I get assigned na Ford Edge to like a Mitsubishi Outlander (I don't really like American cars).

As noted before, yes, you can ask for anything you want. Expecting it is a different matter.

And the Ford Edge is not an American car, it's made in Canada. If you want to avoid American cars then avoid most Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, and Nissan models.
