Changes to the Avis Fleet
Down in Florida this week I was surprised by some of the changes in the fleet, and it may just be Florida.
1) I rented a luxury car and got a 2001 Lincoln Towncar. I saw some others when I returned it to MCO.
2) I saw a few Chrysler products, including a Sebring convertible and an LHS.
3) They have Pontiac Aztecs in the fleet, but the surprising thing was they are classified in the same category as a Toyota Camry (which I think is full size), not as an SUV.

I was in Houston this week for a new business presentation and, by way of talking about "design disasters", or products that start with noble intent but reach the marketplace completely screwed up, we cited among other things the Pontiac Aztec. Clearly the ugliest vehicle available for sale in North America today.
After the presentation we were returning our Nissan Altima to the Avis compound at IAH -- when we saw a whole row of new-looking Aztecs parked nose-to-tail... asking, hopefully, to be rented but finding no takers. I suppose rental fleets are the logical fate of failed car nameplates.

Avis' fleet is suppose to be all GM, but lately they have been getting Ford,Chrysler and Toyota.
While Camry is a fine car, I find the others dull and would never purchase one for myself.
I hate those Aleros.

This fall, I rented AVIS in MSP quite a bit. I always got Hyundais! Seems that's what all their midsize cars were.
When I was in Jacksonville, FL 2 weeks ago, they were bringing 2 truckloads of bright yellow Aztecs in to the AVIS area. They were double ugly in bright yellow.
