Avis: Sub-compact vs. Compact

Hi All,

Just wondering if it is worth the extra $50ish to get the compact card instead of the sub-compact?

I'll be doing both city driving in LA and highway from SF to LA.

Thanks

Really depends how much stuff you'll have and your personal preference.. However, it's rare to see the subcompacts at Avis (Hyundai Accent/Kia Rio, typically) so I'd think there's a good chance of actually getting a compact if you rent just a subcompact. Not guaranteed, though, so don't base you decision on definitely getting a free upgrade.

For the past 10 years I have been struggling to get a subcompact with Avis, sometimes it is hard to even get a compact. However, this past year they are now starting to show up and I frequently get a Mini or a Fiat that I love. In both SF or LA you should now be able to find one. There is no way I would upgrade to a compact, although the subs are my preference.
