Adding Wizard # after reserving, before pickup?

Has anyone done this before? My company now needs us to reserve via their online system, and for some reason it doesn't store Wizard #'s. I'm wondering if anyone has made a standard Avis res, got the xxxxxxxxUSx confirmation #, and then called Avis to add in their Wizard number for Preferred/First/Presidents/Chairman's benefits while keeping the same confirmation #?

I've never had a problem doing just that. Unless it was rented via priceline.

It's not a problem as long as there's not already a different Wizard number in there from the reservation process. (You can add a Wizard number if there isn't one, but you can't change the Wizard number in a reservation once one has been applied.)

If you book through a site that has a relationship with Avis, it may insert the site's own Wizard number, thus blocking your Wizard number.

So it would depend on how "aware" of Avis Preferred your company reservation site is.

Mileage Plus Award

Hi, I just made two reservations with airline points. When I called Avis to add my Wizard number they told me it could not be done. I telephoned Mileage Plus Awards and what they told me was - The code indicating a prepaid reservation (I used my points) is in the box where my Wizard number goes. If they add my Wizard number than they delete the notice of the prepaid reservation. I was hoping to go straight from plane to car, now it appears I will experience a processing delay picking up the car at the airports (EWR and DCA). Not the end of the world, but I would love the convenience of my Avis preferred status.

Has anyone experienced this and have you discovered a workaround? Thanks.
