I just used Avis Discount Code k444404 for a car rental in spain which gave me a ridiculously deep discount! What does this discount code represent and will I need to provide some sort of ID for it when I pick up the car? Anyone?

But why bash those of us that want to be smart about taking advantage and using the system???? Some of us are on a travel expense budget, and are private consultants that expense all travel related expenses to companies we are doing work for.

To say it is fraud to be using COUPON CODES is like saying it is fraud to using coupons at Safeway! Bottom line, if the Safeway cashier accepts the coupon, there is no fraud! If the Safeway cashier believes the coupon is not valid for the item(s) purchased, the cashier is free to not accept the coupon. It is the same for Avis! If the Avis rez computer accepts the code for the rez, then it is valid, and if the Avis rez computer does not accept inputting the code, then it is not valid. Either way, there is NO fraud! Get a grip please!

Thank you, very nice of you to say. Always nice to know that I am not marching to the beat of my own drummer! :D

One thing is a public DISCOUNT CODE, or more properly a COUPON CODE, INTENDED to be used to discount car rental reservations by the renting public, while the other is an exclusive use CREDIT CARD, to be used exclusively by the party whose name is on the card, and by no other! To compare those two NUMBERS is like comparing ORANGES and BASKETBALLS, sure, they are both round, and both orange, but their uses are totally dissimilar! (NOTE - A discount code, or AWD number is a discount available to a group, association, company, etc. and issued by Avis to that group, association, company, etc. for continuing usage, and is not supposed to be public or shared, but a COUPON CODE is a coupon, usually beginning with "MU" and for public use, sometimes in conjunction with certain AWD numbers, and sometimes not. If Avis does not wish for a COUPON to be diseminated, then all Avis needs to do is restrict its use in one fashion or another, either by date, or type of usage, or by identification, or any other method that it sees fit, and if Avis does not, then such COUPON code, if accepted into the Avis reservation computer for that reservation, is FAIR GAME!)

As noted above, AWD is a DISCOUNT CODE, not a coupon code. AWD stands for AVIS WORLDWIDE DISCOUNT, and is the standard/permanent discount numbers offered to certain groups, associations, companies, etc., such as AAA, or Delta Airlines, or the National Association of Realtors, and are totally different from COUPON CODES which usually begin with "MU," and are generally temporary in nature, such as must be used on rentals beginning before March 31, 2010.
The K number in question is a AWD discount code, not a coupon code, like you said coupon code codes come with different abilities, and I agree anyone should be able to use them, but again, we are not questioning a coupon code. If anyone has a problem using an AWD code, very simple: you dont have to.....

To be honest, I don't know how USIrritated even got on the subject of Coupon Codes, this thread was clearly about utilizing an AWD Discount code that a general person would not be eligible for. |

An MS Office Professional Product Code, or any Professional Product Code is for the exclusive use of the person who purchased that SOFTWARE LICENSE, and there are all sorts of disclosures which come with that code, both "in the box/packaging" and when the software is loaded/registered. However, an Avis COUPON CODE is totally different, because there are no usage licences involved, and very possibly no disclosures related specifically to that coupon either either (except restrictions on usage, which would preclude it being used in certain types of reservations anyway), so if that COUPON CODE is not meant to be public, then AVIS needs to restrict or change it in some way so as to make it unavailable to the public, and Avis can do that through monitoring on Avis's own computer system. If Avis does not choose to do that, then that would be the choice of Avis, and it would have no impact on anyone else.
Same with K444404 which was given to Netjet user (?) by Avis. If this is the case then using this code unauthorised is indeed fraud. The situation is different if it is a publicly available code for Tourist Offices etc. You say that if this AWD is not meant to be public then Avis needs to make it unavailable to the public. But AFAIK Avis has not made this AWD available to the public. |

I got busted in Turks and Caicos. It worked last year, but this year they said NO WAY! They said they had a list of people allowed to use this AWD and I was NOT on it. So I got charged full rate for the seven days I was there. Oh well, I made out last year so I guess it all evens out. Managers are aware of this code, and not letting people use it. What can I use now??? Looks like the party might be over.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/13531334-post35.html I always use L149332 and get the same discount (or very close to the same discount as K444404). I have never had an issue in more than 5 years in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Benelux countries and UAE. |

You want to really solve your problem totally easily and legally and legitimately? Become a member of ENTERTAINMENT, by buying an ENTERTAINMENT coupon book for the area you live in. Right now, they are offering all books at the discounted rate of $15 per book, which is 50% off.
What does that give you for Avis you ask? Well, the discount code for ENTERTAINMENT gives you 40% off on many, or maybe even most, Avis multiple day rentals at Avis corporate locations. I happen to be one of those people who is entitled to use the K444404 code, and I am also a member of ENTERTAINMENT, and I am renting an Avis car for a three day rental as we speak. Believe it or not, the ENTERTAINMENT rate beat the K444404 code by more than $2 (in this instance) for the same rental period that I am on now, AND, I still got my Chairman's Club upgrade to a luxury car! My rate is only $66.15 (40% discount), plus taxes and fees, unlimited miles, Thursday to Sunday, at ATL, using the ENTERTAINMENT BOOK AWD code that I am entitled to use as a paying member of ENTERTAINMENT. If I would have used K444404, the rate would have been $68.36 (38% discount), and if I would have not used either rate, the best that I could have gotten would have been $93.71 (15% discounted, from the undiscounted rate of $110.25 at $36.75 per day), for a mid-size, with my Chairman's upgrade to luxury. 'Nuff said? Of course, different locations, different dates, and different lengths of rental will change the factors, but still, the numbers are striking! As always, YMMV! |
Im glad some of you can afford to have "ethics".
My opinion is that car rental agencies charge inflated prices because they can, especialy on weekdays. They take advantage of business travelers. In this economy I cant afford $50-60 a day. So your damn right if by using a code I can drop it to $25-30 a day, Im going to do it. Some of you want to call it fraud, you go right ahead and feel righteous. I'll just feel that I did my homework and have a few more $ in my pocket. |
