I didn't know that. Surely it goes against the concept of being a frequent flyer. And does it not cheese off LH that a German infrequent flyer can get all the benefits of an elite by paying cash to an airline that they may have no intention of ever flying?

But the only info I managed to get is you need to show up at their office to buy it. Good luck to anyone wanting to try. US version was way easier.

I have heard that status upgrades are only available on full fare tickets, does anyone know if that is true? Additionally, no flights to and from Europe.

I suppose you can acquire an legitimate Star Gold with A3 way cheaper than 2200 USD

I think elusive1 is saying that upgrades do not apply to TATL flights. I don't know whether they do or not but I do know e-coupon upgrades do not work on TATL flights. They actually don't work on any flights but on TATL flights they are expressly not applicable.

AV flies to BCN too by the way
