Hanoi - Tailors?

Would anyone be able to recommend any quality tailors in specifically Hanoi for suits and/or contemporary clothes? My girlfriend and I will be in Hanoi next week for work so both female and male tailoring suggestions would be appreciated!

I couldn't... but would be interested in anyone who could tell me why it is in Hanoi (more so than Saigon), tailors often have a picture or small replica of the Eiffel tower on their fascia. This was especially the case in the past if you look at old footage of Hanoi.

Obviously its a link to the old colonial power - but I wonder how the specific association with the Eiffel tower arose.

(Sorry for the hijack!)

Just a wild guess, but Eiffel designed the post office in SGN and the Long Bien Bridge in HAN. Maybe he was a fan of VN tailoring and had suits made there?

I have had suits made at Cao Minh Tailor (near the Melia hotel) that have lasted well. If memory serves, there is also a very good tailor near the Opera House, but the name has escaped me.

Thanks nzed! I'll give the place a try. Do you know how much a suit typically costs?

The price depends on the quality of the material used. I paid about 3 million dong for a Cao Minh suit about 3 years ago. Prices can go much higher depending on your preference.

I have dug out some old business cards and came across another good tailor. Her name is Hoa and her shop is located (at least used to be) next to Vine Restaurant outside the Sheraton. If she has moved, I am sure the Vine staff will know where she went. Highly recommended.

Thanks, I'll check out your suggested locations and post the results after I get my suit!
