Layover in PNH

It looks like I will have 5 hours in PNH transiting SGN-REP. Is that enough time to go into the city, maybe have lunch? It will be from 1245p to 545p on a Monday.

Is there a lounge in PNH? TG or another *A? I am *A Gold.

How is customs? Visa can be arranged on arrival, right? Is mordida recommended? How much is customary?

You should have time for a quick two hour trip to one of these:

a. central market
b. the grand palace
c. lunch at a restaurant across from the river

Just catch a taxi to your choice of destination and hail a cab back to the airport.

It's been two years since I've been at PHN. You should double check anything I tell you.

I don't know about airline lounges at the airport. The terminal is like a smaller version of Bradley at LAX -- a dump.

You have to pay about $20 US for a "VISA on-arrival". No bribes necessary; that's the standard fee. You might save some time by bringing a passport photo with you. Bring another passport photo for when you buy the pass to get into Angkor Wat complex after you go on to REP. (Otherwise, you'll wait a little for them to snap a photo.) If you are going to REP, you'll need the VISA and extra passport photo anyway.

U.S. currency is univerally accepted in Cambodia.

Thanks Bowgie,

Maybe a taxi through the city to the Sisowath Quay area, lunch and return? If that takes three hours, we should be okay given the five hour layover, it would seem.

It's nice to have input from someone who has actually "been there, done that."

the airport in PNH is quite near the city, so the drive should take 30mins max. with the traffic. I'm not sure about the Grand Palace opening times, if it's open, you could have a stroll there (it's a beautiful complex, like the grand palace in bkk, just smaller) and then have lunch at fcc balcony or some other place on the riverside. the palace is a block from the riverside cafes.

the visa is $20, bring passport photos, no tea money problems at the airport (crossing overland into cambodia is a different story). the airport is small, but nice for cambodian standards, i think there's a lounge but don't know about the details. if you go out of the airport you'll have to pay the departure tax of $25.

have a good trip and enjoy angkor!
