I will be spending one night in Singapore (a first visit) following a trip to India in November. Can anybody recommend a place considering the following:
Post India I will look forward to a pool/gym
First visit so decent location for sites/food stalls
I arrive at 7 am and leave the next day for an 8 am flight so decent airport access.
I'm flying Singapore Air - are their hotel discounts offers worth it?
Where would you stay?
MANY THANKS

I would choose either the Swisshotel Stamford or Raffles Plaza.
They are adjoining towers that share probably the best fitness facility in Singapore.
Lau Pa Sat hawker center http://www.kopitiam.biz/lps.htm is nearby for inexpensive street food and Boat Quay, also in the area, has numerous outdoor full service restaurants. The river boats at Boat Quay offer a scenic, touristy, way to relax. Plenty of shopping in the area. Drop some coins in the Suntec City Fountain of Wealth. Stop by Chijmes http://www.chijmes.com.sg/, a collection of nightclubs across the street from the hotel, in the evening for drinks.
As far as airport accessibilty, these hotels are closer to the highway than choosing something on Orchard Road. You'll hit morning rush hour on the day of your arrival wherever you go but shouldn't have any problem on the morning of your departure.

SQ also has special rates with Raffles, The Plaza - look up their special SQ rates on www.raffles.com
The gym/pool at RTP (shared with Swissotel) is nice.

Thanks. Any thoughts about the Oriental? Particularly it's location. I would like to have access to food stalls, maybe the zoo, china town, other sites, but i don't care about shopping.

I hear people rave about the Conrad hotel in Singapore. But me I always stay in the cheaper middle range hotels in Singapore -- no pool. As long as your location is near an MRT station, then you will be anywhere in Singapore pretty quick.
