Advice on Beijing hotels needed
Me and 3 friends plan to visit plan Beijing from Dec 27nd - Jan 05th. We´re looking for a 4 to 5star downtown hotel that´s affordable (about 80-90$ per room/night). Could anybody give any advice?
On our list are by now the Presidential Palace, the Crown Plaza and the Gloria as well as the Prime hotel. We plan a 9 day sightseeing/shopping trip.
Thanks in advance!

Stayed in Beijing Hotel a couple of years ago at less than $100 (including breakfast). The hotel practically is in Tian'anmen Square and we had a room overlooking the Forbidden City. The hotel is a bit old (must have seen better days) but the location (for us) was great. We got a direct rate from the hotel by sending them an email (and the rate was lower than what they published on their web site).

you might look into: the jingguang (insist on a deluxe-executive; they never sell out), the landmark, and the swiss. from your list, the gloria is also ok, but i'd say a notch below these 3. all 4 properties bottom out at around Y400 per night, but it takes a little legwork to get into that ballpark.
