Phuket Hotels

I'm a first time visitor to Phuket. I can't decide between The Chedi or The Amanpuri. Is The Amanpuri worth almost three times as much per night as The Chedi. How can I justify the price? Thanks !!!!

Chedi

I was staying in the Chedi - which is close to the Amanpuri. The location is nice, but i have seen much nicer places. Otherwise i was disappointed: food was bland, rooms small (had one of the oceanfront huts) and not very well apointed. Buildings are fairly close to each others.

Other places in the area i was staying:
Banyan Tree Laguna: Very nice bungalows, especially the version with a private pool. But in a flat setting around a (artificial looking touristy) laguna and 10 min walk to the (small) beach.

Rayavadee, Krabi:
Very nice setting, spacious, great food, three beaches (only one is nice, but crowded - public).

You might want to ask that question in the Luxury Hotels forum. Quite a few people there have been staying at the Amanpuri.
