BKK in September

I'm going to be in BKK for 3 days during September.

I've never been to Thailand before. What should I see and do during my time there - given that I only have 3 days, I imagine I won't enough time to venture far from BKK.

Stay in BKK, there's nothing worth seeing within easy striking distance.

If you haven't been in the Third World before BKK will be a shock, but most people get over it soon and fall in love. Don't be ambitious when planning since getting around is slow -- get a hotel near the Skytrain so you can avoid most traffic jams. Check out the obligatory temples (tip for most underrated temple: Wat Rajanadda); Jim Thompson's house; go shopping in MBK (any day), Night Bazaar, Chatuchak (on weekends); kickboxing at Lumpini stadium; play a game of "spot the ladyboy" in Patpong; check out any of Bangkok's famous bars (Q-Bar, Bed -- the dinner 'banquets' here are an excellent, if expensive, date) and eat lots of good, fiery, cheap food anywhere!
