Can anyone recommend the best place to stay in Beijing these days - I have been looking at the Shangri-La versus the St. Regis. Want a good location for tourist sites and central to everything. This is for a trip for the parent-in-law who have never been before.
Thanks

Pass on the Shangri-La. It used to be sweet hotel back when there was still action on the west side of town, but now it's the pits.
The St. Regis is nice, but there are plenty of properties that provide better location and almost as much hotel for less than half the price. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Jingguang (Y460/night). The Swiss, Kempinski, Kunlun, and the Great Dragon are also high on my list in terms of location and value.
