check in procedure from DPS to DMK without checked bag

I am travelling from DPS to DMK on jan 3rd. I have carry on only.
I arrive in DPS on Jetstar from Australia.
Am I able to check in online for my AirAsia flight to DMK, get my boarding pass on my phone before I leave Australia, and then go straight to the departure gate in DPS without having to obtain Visa on arrival and going through immigration?

As far as I am aware Bali still doesn't have airside transit facilities international to international. Therefore you must be processed into the country and reclear the formalities upstairs in the departure area. This will mean a VOA.

Thanks for the reply.... That is also what I suspect. Was just hoping and wishing I could avoid the queues.
I did visit the Indonesian Embassy here in Darwin yesterday and was assured by a young lady that it was possible to just stay in transit area and then go to departure gate. However, I wasn't convinced at all that she was right.
Guess I'll find out on 3rd Jan.

I'm sure she was right in theory, but clearly had no idea of the practicalities of how immigration is set up at the airport.

In any case, I doubt very much Air Asia would check you in online without requiring you call by their check-in desk at DPS. They're responsible for checking your eligibility to enter Thailand.

Unless you are remarkably fortunate, you'll have to go through the arrival hassle, purchase a visa, and check-in landside, so I hope you have allowed enough time to do that.
