Does anyone foresee issues with having no hotel address during immigration, and no boarding pass for an outbound flight either (because need to check bags in again at TPE) ?

Thanks in advance!

Others can weigh in, but I see no issues. I would just put in a random address, or even "not staying the night," rather than leaving it blank.

Question for those that have recently visited...do you do 5 days of self-monitor in one location, and not go into public? I have a family member that just did that...but I was under the impression that self-monitor didn't mean "stay indoors and not go out".

During the five days, you are required to self-monitor for Covid symptoms and also have a negative RAT within two (?) days whenever you go out. But in reality, I think everyone just take it to mean business as usual.

Is “self-monitor” defined anywhere? Do you mean “gee, I feel good today. Now on with my day”?

First you look at the weather forecast.
Then you ask yourself "why is it raining every day"
Then you ask yourself "why did I trust the weather forecast, it's not actually raining"
Then you ask yourself "why did I trust the weather forecast, it started raining again"
Then you ask yourself "ah, I am outside already. might as well go do some things"

look at my posts above, there is no definition

Haven't paid attention to these measures since the 0+7 scheme came into effect and had to look it up. It seems that the "5 days self health monitoring (自我健康監測)" applies to close contacts of Covid cases and not arriving passengers. Arriving passengers are subject to "7 days of self pandemic prevention (自主防疫)", which is defined as:
 1. In principle, the passenger's residence should fulfill the "1 person 1 bath" requirement
 2. The passenger should try to avoid close contact with high risk population, such as those over 65, under 6, and the immunocompromised
 3. If experiencing symptoms, the passenger should rest at home; if no symptoms, the passenger may go out with a negative RAT within 2 days and should wear a mask at all time
 4. The passenger may dine in alone or with specific persons, and must wear a mask while not actively eating and drinking
 5. The passenger is forbidden to visit someone at the hospital, and it is recommended to postpone non-emergency medical procedures and avoid visiting long-term care facilities
 6. If tested positive but with mild symptoms, the passenger may quarantine at the present residence (unless it's a hotel)
Obviously there's no enforcement other than masking (since it applies to everyone) and hospital visits.

In somewhat related news, starting January 1, foreigners who tested positive but without National Health Insurance coverage will have to pay out of pocket for all related expenses.

And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

TPE area for a night?

Hi everyone,

Going to be landing at TPE at around 20:50, then leaving the following morning at 08:45. Since it's a bit far to downtown Taipei?/Xinbeishi?/the main train station, I'd like to stay near the airport, by somewhere with a lot of late-night eats. Might someone be able to recommend a neighborhood?

Cheers!

Maybe the Zhongli Tourist Night Market? https://www.jlyes.com.tw/ Looks like a 25-minute taxi ride. There are hotel recommendations too: https://www.jlyes.com.tw/hotel.php

You land pretty late though, not sure how late it's open. Some sites say midnight, but in my experience night markets close earlier than that.

YariGuy, appreciate your reply.

Do you believe the night markets have been closing earlier due to the pandemic, or that's just how it is?
Also, are there many 24-hour and/or late-night places to grab a bite near there/in Taoyuan city?

Night markets typically open quite late, but many stalls might start to close after 9pm.

The area near Zhongli train station is more like Vietnam/Thailand/Indonesia due to high concentration of oversea workers.

If you really don't want to go into downtown Taipei, perhaps consider staying near the Changgong Memorial Hospital MRT station - just one stop from the airport on the express train. Many eating places opening 'til midnight and lots of convenience store as well.

No, just write SAME DAY TRANSIT and be prepared to show your onward flight information.

I haven't been back to Taiwan since 2020 so I don't know the reason, but my impression has always been that night markets aren't like night clubs that stay open until 2am. They attract a lot of families who need to go to bed early. To be completely transparent I haven't been to the Zhongli night market, so maybe the idea to go to Changgong is better.

Yeah, Taiwan night markets aren't all-night affairs. I'm not much of a night owl, so I can't say that I've tried visiting a night market later than 11PM in a very long time. But even around 10-11PM, some food stalls are already folding up. I'm guessing that by midnight, they're pretty much done. There are other options for late-night eats, they're just not as concentrated in one place. A lot of "breakfast" shops go all night, and there are other late-night eateries (宵夜) around.

From my experience in Taipei you have to know where to go to find food late at night (eg 2am). For example, there is that 24 hour ramen place. But if you just wander aimlessly you will be stuck with fast food (Mcdonald's, Yoshinoya)

I planned to visit Taiwan next year since travelers arriving in Taiwan will no longer be required to quarantine.
